No On Prop 8

Sponsored by: Care2.com

Update: Unfortunately, Proposition 8 passed on election day. If you would like to sign the petition in protest of the initiative's passage, please feel free to do so.
-----

Proposition 8 is an initiative on California's November ballot that if passed would take away the right to marry from the state's gay and lesbian couples. It jeopardizes the California Supreme Court's historic decision allowing gay men and lesbians to marry the person they love.

Unfortunately, the proposition's supporters are out-fundraising the opposition, which means that Prop 8's advocates can spend more on campaigning and advertising.

Also, advance polling is expected to dramatically undercount those voting for Proposition 8, as people are afraid of appearing homophobic to those conducting the polls.

With the election only weeks away, we need to do more to defeat Proposition 8. Pledge to vote No on Proposition 8, the California constitutional amendment taking away the rights of gay and lesbian couples to marry. Help spread the word to family and friends, and if it's within your means, please also consider making a donation to the No on Prop 8 campaign.

Let's not discriminate against and strip away the rights of same-sex couples.

I believe EVERY ONE has the right to marry. I also believe that prop 8 invades the human right to peruse happiness, besides how many divorced gay couples are their compared to straight couples?? The straights have a winning edge on divorce rate

Until Proposition 8 is defeated, I will continue to dream of the day when California finally becomes as progressive as Iowa or Maine. It's 2009 -- it's about time that the Californian government STOPS denying homosexual citizens their basic civil rights. Why should two consenting adults be banned from getting married if they truly love one another? It simply doesn't make any sense. If the LGBT community & its allies continue to work together to fight for the rights of same-sex couples, I have no doubt that we shall overcome. Justice & democracy shall prevail!

ONE THING THAT REALLY ANNOYS ME IS WHEN SOMEONE SAYS THAT THE GAY COMMUNITY CHOSES TO BE GAY AS A PERSON WITH A GAY COUSIN I KNOW THAT HE WAS BORN THAT WAY WHY WOULD A PERSON CHOSE TO BE HATED THESE HATERS SO GET A CLUE AND WORRY ABOUT THEMSELVES .I JUST CANT UNDERSTAND WHY IN 2009 SO MANY PEOPLE HIDE BEHIND THE BIBLE FOR THERE INGNORANCE , WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE, THE BIBLE IS ALL ABOUT NOT JUDGING PEOPLE AND THAT IS JUST WHAT THEY ARE DOING IF TWO PEOPLE LOVE EACH OTHER WHO ARE YOU TO TELL THEM THEY CANT GET MARRIED ESPECIALLY WHEN THE STRAIGHT COMMUNITY HAS A FIFTY PERCENT DIVORCE RATE MAYBE THEY SHOULD WORRY ABOUT THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF BUTTING THERE NOSES IN OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES. GOOD LUCK ON REVERSING THE VOTE.

In my opinion it is un-American, we live in a country founded on our freedom of rights and choice. Also, I feel those who are dissappointed with the recent vote on Prop 8 should consider moving out of CA, even the acting community, taking there tax money with them, that would be a big blow to CA.

It disgusts me that human beings even in this day and age have to struggle in a country like America for something as simple as marriage. Why is this so difficult? It's obvious prop 8 is wrong. Give every citizen the same rights. (or don't make them pay taxes)

it's disgusting. gay people are still human, we love the same way straight people love. we're american, we're legal citizens, we pay our taxes.... why can't we marry the ones we love? If gay people can't marry each other, why not stop discriminating? lets make things fair and take away the right for straight people to marry, let them see how it feels.

It is Wrong and prejudicial against free humans in this Free United States, and they pay taxes just like straight couple do and are not allowed the same tax benefits, hence creating a disparity and injustice in the U.S. FREE society.

This is a cruel injustice. I am almost ashamed to be a part of a country who would strip an individual's rights as such! I'm not even gay and I feel emotionally hurt. What are we teaching the youth of today? To not accept someone who is different from us? That same-sex couples should not be allowed to marry based strictly on other's veiws of them? That this country who fought so hard to have government seperate from church is not allowing same-sex marriage based on the opinions of people? this is a sickening time we live in.

How absolutely horrible it is tolive in a country were a minority can have rights given to them, giving them the same rights as everyone else, and then have them taken away. There is no reason everyone should not have the same rights.

Although an Austraian, I vote NO to prop8 as a global citizen. We look to the US, and its Constitution, to pave the way in the recognition of human and civil rights for all its citizens. Prop 8 is downright discrimination of the highest calibre!!

Yes on love, NO on h8. As Americans we all should have the same civil liberties whether we are gay or straight, black or white, young or old. Taking away a person's right to marry is wrong and unconstitutional.

I dislike it when anyone anywhere thinks they have the right to tell anyone else who to love or how to live. Where is the free America? Is it only for some people? Is America free or are we becoming like Iraq? Since when does certain Americans get away with acting like Nazi's and the KKK?

I feel that if you love someone, it shouldn't matter what sex you are. You can't help the way your heart feels about another person, whether it is two men, two women, or a man and a woman. I mean, if it was such a bad thing, then why do many states have gay churches? I am gay myself and my wife and I went to a gay church right here in columbia, sc and we got married....no, it's not LEGALL, but in our hearts, it is? Now, if we could all get together and do a petition or write to the President, and of course we have enough people to protest this about not having the right to marry gay and lesbian couples, then we may be able to have a real marriage licenses just as a man and woman would..so, anyone out there who gets this message, please help the gay and lesbian couples be able to get married in north carolina and south carolina....

It angers me, because not only amI a lesbian but I have a gay older brother whose marriage was ruined because of Prop 8. My older sister is gay as well, and these homophobic Christians, are following the bibe blindly, and only using certain scriptures so they can support themselves, instead of reading the whole passage and putting the scripture in context.
