Protect Tigers and Humans, Stop Illegal Logging in Sumatra

Target: Didy Wurjanto, head of Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (Nature Conservancy Agency)
Sponsored by: Care2
In less than a month, six people were killed from tiger attacks in Sumatra, Indonesia. And three tigers were killed by civilians in this same area. This is a clear example of the deadly consequences of interfering in the habitat of wild animals.

Illegal loggers are encroaching on tiger habitat, and it is creating a dire situation for these endangered creatures. Palm oil and pulpwood plantations are clearing millions of hectares of valuable forests. Nearly 50 percent of forests have been lost in Sumatra in the past 22 years.

Fewer than 400 Sumatran tigers remain in the wild, and we must do everything we can to protect these animals and the forests they call home. They're already under attack from global warming.

Please tell the head of the official nature conservancy agency in the area to do everything possible to stop illegal logging and protect tiger populations.

Dear Didy Wurjanto,

In light of the recent tiger attacks in the Jambi Province, I am writing to encourage you to do everything you can to stop these attacks, and the deaths of humans and tigers, by putting a halt to illegal logging.

I understand that you are already at work on this issue, and I thank you for that. It is critical that these illegal logging activities stop before tiger habitat is destroyed and more lives are lost.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

It is not just illegal logging that is doing the damage but the issuance of land rights to clear the forests for common crop. This has been done excessively by corrupt governments to greedy corporations. This is a crime our children will have to pay for.

These people should not be allowed to enter a Tiger Habitat. Something needs to be done to keep people out of there.

STOP ILLEGAL LOGGING. Everyone of us needs to protect our environment - water, land, mountains, the flora and fauna. If we stop deforestration then this lovely tigers will just stay on their territory (in the wilds). If we, people, always encroach their place tendency is that they (wild animals) will fight for their survival. Stop illegal logging, stop the killing of tigers.
