Women today play a much greater role in our workforce than they did just a few decades ago. And yet, pension plan laws have not been updated.
The current laws unfairly penalize women for taking time off to raise families. It's time for pension plan laws that reflect the economy and the workplace of today and the future.
Many companies have begun to adopt cash balance and other hybrid pension plans - ones that do not assume a full, uninterrupted career with a single company. These plans allow women to earn and keep substantial benefits earlier in their employment.
However, these modern plans are now at risk. Due to a recent court decision and Congressional inaction, companies may be forced to stop offering cash balance and other hybrid pension plans - leaving women workers everywhere facing the prospect of "turning back the clock" when it comes to pension fairness.
Don't make women choose between having a family and having a secure retirement!

Dear Congressional Leader,
Our economy has changed dramatically in the last few decades, with women now playing a full role in our workforce. And yet, pension plans are all too often stuck in 1970-vintage structures structures that unfairly penalize women for taking time off to raise families. It's time to have pension plans that reflect the economy and the workplace of today and the future.
I call upon you to help end this pension 'gender gap,' and to support companies that are trying to adopt modern cash-balance and other hybrid pension plans that take account of changing times and changing realities.
Cash balance plans and other hybrid pension plans, which enable women to earn and keep substantial retirement benefits earlier in their employment, make the workplace better for women. They deserve your support.
I urge you to help end the ambiguity surrounding cash balance pension plans. Please support clarifying the law to make sure cash balance plans are protected.
