Cat Killer Gaming App on Kickstarter Must be Shut Down

  • by: Karen Nichols
  • recipient: Kickstarter.com - Yancey Strickler, CEO

A gaming app developer, Fred Mastropasqua, is seeking funding via kickstarter for an app that will encourage the player (as a cat avatar) to:

"...escape a house and dodge deadly obstacles. Sure you can do that and beat the game but the real fun of the game is laughing at all the different ways the cat dies a horrible death.”

And when he says that the cat dies a horrible death, he’s not exaggerating. He has plotted 17 different death scenarios, all graphically and bloodily depicted. Since further description can be a trigger, I'll simply say that he must be stopped.

There is a mountain of evidence proving that violent games incite copycat behavior. The video game Grand Theft Auto has “inspired” a horrific number of violent crimes.

Violent games are never going away, but when the objects of such violence are those with no voice to protest, we must express loudly that it is not okay to depict animal torture, dismemberment and murder as recreation.

HELP SHUT DOWN THE CAMPAIGN

FIRST: report it to Kickstarter as violating its Community Guidelines (Offensive material [e.g., hate speech, encouraging violence against others, etc]).

To do that, scroll to the bottom of its page, and click the “Report this Project to Kickstarter” button.

SECOND, sign this petition, which will be sent to Kickstarter CEO Yancey Strickler

Because Kickstarter appears to reserve project removal for egregious claims of copyright or other severe breaches of policy, this project will likely only be removed if it generates significant public outcry.

Dear Mr Strickler,

A gaming app developer, Fred Mastropasqua, is seeking funding via kickstarter for a mobile app, Cat Escape, that will encourage the player (as a cat avatar) to:

"...escape a house and dodge deadly obstacles. Sure you can do that and beat the game but the real fun of the game is laughing at all the different ways the cat dies a horrible death.”

And when he says that the cat dies a horrible death, he’s not exaggerating. He has plotted 17 different death scenarios, all graphically and bloodily depicted, including putting a cat in a blender, dismembering the cat with a chainsaw, scalding the cat to death with a clothes iron, and 14 others. If the object of such violence were a baby, a gay, or a person of color, it might be considered a felony or hate crime.
