Hargin Farm: Stop Torturing Turkeys!

Disturbing hidden camera footage from Hargin turkey farm in Minnesota reveals birds bleeding from deep gashes, limping on diseased, painful feet, and getting caught and crippled in mechanical nesting boxes. Confronted with the video, the spokespeople from the farm says they’re already following the industry’s standards for animal welfare, and claims they’ll simply re-train workers.

Animal welfare standards in the livestock industry are voluntary – so unless we demand concrete action now, this poultry distributor can easily sweep the story under the rug and continue abusing the 25,000 turkeys at this farm. In fact, just three years ago The Humane Society documented multiple abuses at the same farm, including grinding animals alive.

Turkeys are smart, social, and inquisitive animals. They deserve to live in humane conditions, and we all deserve to know that the food we eat isn't supporting animal cruelty. Farms that are Humane Certified are vetted by third parties and give consumers a choice of humanely raised products.

Take action now to ask Hargin Farm to take real steps to treat its turkeys right by becoming Humane Certified.

Dear Hargin Farm,

I am writing to ask that you take real steps to prove that you are treating your turkeys humanely by becoming Humane Certified.

Turkeys are smart, social, and inquisitive animals. They deserve to live in humane conditions, and we all deserve to know that the food we eat isn't supporting animal cruelty. The recent video evidence showing inhumane conditions, in addition to disturbing reports from 2010, raise questions about your supposed commitment to humane treatment of your birds.

If you are truly committed to providing a facility and care of your turkeys that is cruelty-free, please prove that commitment to your consumers by becoming Humane Certified.
