Please sign and share this petition worldwide to demand the Peruvian government immediately address environmental devastation from recent oil spills. Recent spills have churned out thick black clots of crude throughout jungles and swamps full of capybaras, fish, and other wildlife. These continual leaks of oil are creating a blanket full of dead fish!

Recent reports reveal that since June, Peru has suffered five separate oil spills on its main oil pipeline throughout the Amazon that has surged out thick black clots of crude oil all across their jungles and swamps.

These continual oil leaks are creating a poor environment for the people who rely on the Amazon waters and lagoons, and killing many of the fish and wildlife that drink from the water. Despite this disaster, the oil spills in the jungle go unnoticed by the government.

These oil spills and leaks are causing causing sickness and fear in the people living on the banks of the Marañón river. One of the many residents, Ms. Celis told reporters: "I never knew what crude oil was, and then suddenly we saw it floating down the river." Many in the village suffer from headaches, nose bleeds, nausea and stomach aches. Ms. Celis said "We can’t go on living here. They say the oil will last for 30 or 40 years. We can't eat the fish anymore, so what will we live on for all those years?"

Fish are now extremely scarce; many of them floating dead on the surface, covered in oil. On one particular day, they noted a dead capybara (the world's largest rodent), coated in crude and floating belly-up in the fishing ground that had been the villagers' main source of food. Another resident commented that "You could smell oil, and the leaves on the bank were black. I could never imagine anything like that. It was scary. I felt sad." Layers of dead fish are so dense, they say, that you can almost walk on them. No one seems to be making any attempt to clean up the mess left behind by these numerous pipeline leaks.

These pipeline issues date back to the 1970s, being neglected for some 40 years!! This is no way for these people and the wildlife to live and no one seems to care!! The leaky pipeline runs far below the waters of the Amazon but the oil companies do not want to recognize the ill effects this causes residents and wildlife. Please help us in our efforts to get the Peruvian government to clean up this oil spill and leaky mess while ensuring better safety measures so that the pipes will no longer leak and cause such a disaster! Peru has been known for hosting environmental talks, taking on the role as an environmental leader, which is absurd since no action is taken to stop and prevent oil spills and leaks that are damaging the Amazon.

Peruvian Government Officials - It is quite astounding that the pipeline below the waters of the Amazon has a continual leak of black crude oil that is not only killing numerous fish and other wildlife, it is also having a huge impact on the local indigenous community, causes sickness, illness and fear in the way that they live. What is more surprising is that you as a country has hosted environmental talks recently and wants to be seen as an environmental leader, even though they're not taking action to prevent damage to the Amazon. Help your people and your country; stop the oil spill, clean up the mess immediately and ensuring better safety measures so that the pipes will no longer leak and cause such a disaster.
