Walmart Canada's Great Value brand canned tuna continues to be sourced from fisheries that rely on destructive catching methods that kill sea turtles, sharks, seabirds, and even juvenile tuna from ailing tuna stocks. It's not just marine life that's affected. Walmart is also not doing enough to ensure seafood workers aren't being abused in their seafood supply chains.
In February 2017, Walmart Canada released another weak tuna sourcing policy. It stated that it wouldn't offer more sustainable options to its Great Value customers until 2021! This is totally unacceptable. Not only has Walmart been stalling for years since it first claimed it would offer sustainable tuna to its customers, but also the fisheries its tuna comes from are impacting threatened and overfished species. Ocean life needs help now.
Demand that Walmart stops making excuses and delaying action on ocean protection. Walmart: offer more sustainable and socially responsible Great Value tuna this year!
