Give One Minute for Peace

Target: President Barack Obama
Sponsored by: American Friends Service Committee

Every minute, the United States government spends $1.9 million on the military budget. That's a lot of money in just 60 seconds.

At the same time, millions face hunger, violence and disaster.

We can do better. That's why the American Friends Service Committee launched a campaign to make real the vast amounts of money used for war. Rosie the Guinea Pig is cute, but she gets the point across.

Just think -- we could be using that money to help people at home and abroad, to heal the wounds of war and create lasting peace and prosperity. Send a message to President Obama urging him to dedicate a portion of the funds used to support the U.S. military to peace.

In that way, we can help reshape our world and create a better future for everyone.

The U.S military spends $1.9 million every minute -- an annual budget of $976,121,986,000 that nets our nation a harvest of war, despair, violence and fear.

I urge you and Congress to dedicate a portion of those funds to programs of peace. Together, with your leadership, we could reshape our world and create a better future for everyone. It would be a joyous legacy to coming generations.

[Your comments]

I support the American Friends Service Committee in their One Minute for Peace campaign. I earnestly ask you to support peace as well.

Sincerely,

Arya Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, known as Kuan Yin is the bodhisattva who most embodies compassion. The name Avalokitesvara has its root meaning as "he who observes the sounds of the world". The great vow of Avalokitesvara is to listen to the supplications, and cries for help from those in difficulty in the world and to provide them with aid, whatever expedient means are needed to help people most effectively. Kuan Yin Bodhisattva, an emanation of Amida Buddha's compassion, is the "Regarder of the Cries of the World". Sometimes referred to in the West as the Goddess of Mercy. Prayers for help arise from thousands of hearts, and thousands of prayers are answered by her vow of eternal compassion: Beings in Samsara, who sail the ocean of suffering, She will guide and deliver safely to the ultimate shore of enlightenment Nīlakantha Dhāranī (The Blue Necked Dhāranī) Namo ratna-trayāya (Adoration of the triple Gem) [edit] I. All of us pay taxes. I have always been anti-war. I'd like some money to bespent on helping;not destroying,or killing.

Imagine if just one fraction of a percentage of that money was put towards peace building and spreading missions. Prevention is by far the best cure - by spreading peace now we ensure a less violent future.
