Rescue Nine Chimps From Life in a Research Lab

Megan, Apollo, Candy, Kira, Mindy and four other young chimps are a part of "Group Megan" at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette's New Iberia Research Center (NIRC), where the HSUS documented undercover videos of chimpanzee suffering.

Now, the fate of these chimps hangs in the balance: will they live out the rest of their lives in the lab, or at a sanctuary?

Not only shouldn't Group Megan have to risk continued suffering at the research center, but, given that the four adult females are owned by the federal government, the cost to the university and government would be much less than originally expected.

Help Megan, Apollo, and the rest of the chimps in Group Megan. Tell the University of Louisiana-Lafayette's president Dr. E. Joseph Savoie and the Director of the National Center for Research Resources, Dr. Barbara Alving to retire these chimpanzees and send them to a reputable sanctuary.
Dear Dr. Savoie,

I am concerned about the fate of Group Megan, the nine chimpanzees who were part of the Cognitive Evolution Group before its recent closure. I urge you not to allow these chimpanzees to be added to the general population at New Iberia Research Center but instead, to send them to an appropriate sanctuary, like Chimp Haven, along with funding for their care.

These animals should be spared from a life of anguish in a laboratory and should instead be retired to an appropriate sanctuary where they can live in peace.

When you do retire them, please be responsible and provide funding to the sanctuary for their care. Since the females in the group are federally-owned, the cost to the University for their retirement will be less than originally anticipated. In addition, the cost to the federal government for sending the chimpanzees to the National Sanctuary System would be only 75% of their care instead of the 100% paid to laboratories.

The financial incentives for retiring Group Megan to sanctuary are there. Please do the right thing for the chimpanzees.
