We demand a thorough investigation of Marcia Mayeda, along with her removal from her position as Director of the County of Los Angeles' Department of Animal Care and Control.

The animal shelter system in Los Angeles County needs a complete overhaul, starting with the Director, Marcia Mayeda. She is responsible for the animals entrusted to her care by the residents of Los Angeles County, and she is failing to provide compassionate and caring staff to run the shelters. Instead, she hires bloodthirsty, compassionless, uncaring persons to provide the care and see to the needs of our animals.
Healthy, young, highly adoptable dogs and puppies, of all breeds, but mostly pit bulls, and pit mixes, are euthanized by the dozens, and for reasons such as space, time, lack of interest, unable to kennel, ill (which covers anything from kennel cough to cancer), injured (old or new injuries, superficial to mortal), and behaviour (anything, really). Animals are lost, stolen, killed before their state mandated holds expire. Pregnant mothers are killed, pregnancies are terminated up until labor begins, even with rescues waiting to help. Bonded pets are separated, animals in obvious pain sit for days unvetted. Shelter staff do not try to find homes or rescue interests for any of the animals, and sometimes make rescuing certain breeds far more difficult than it has to be.
The animals cannot speak for themselves, so it's up to us to be their voice, and make it known that this is unacceptable, and we demand justice! In the very least, Marcia Mayeda is guilty of criminal negligence and dereliction of her duties. Please, sign and share this petition, and help to get the changes these shelters need! A thorough overhaul, from the people in charge, to the people cleaning cages, and start with Marcia Mayeda!
