Sat., Feb. 24, 2007:  VIRGINIA LEGISLATURE REFUSES TO END GASSING OF PETS!
General Assembly Adjourns!  House Bill 3004 Dies Without Passage!

NEW SESSION CONVENES APRIL 2007! (2008 Bills to be Prefiled by Nov. 2007)  END INHUMANE GASSING OF INNOCENT ANIMALS IN VIRGINIA!

“I’ve been a licensed vet tech for 20 years and have assisted and performed humane euthanasia countless times. This method is nothing short of archaic and disgusting and obviously done to cut corners. Again, the almighty $$$$$$$$ wins over what is humane. What ever happened to the old fashioned syringe? It’s not that difficult to euthanize an animal with compassion and dignity. This world and how it treats the beings that can’t speak for themselves makes me embarrassed to be part of the human race. Step up and do what’s right for these deserving animals!”–Petition Signatory No. 941, Lisa Carrano, New Port Richey, Florida, Feb. 26, 2007

“Virginia is for lovers?? Evidently not for lovers of animals!!!!”–Petition Signatory No. 998, Cayce O’Keefe, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Feb. 27, 2007

“Perfect example of Man’s inhumanity ... ...Worst animal on the planet.”–Petition Signatory No. 1,000, Diane Cieslak, Bay Village, Ohio, Feb. 27, 2007

“[A]nimal welfare is not just a moral problem to be solved with statutes, but a moral opportunity to fill our own lives with acts of compassion.... How we treat our fellow creatures is only one more way in which each of us, every day, writes our own epitaph—bearing into the world a message of light and life or just more darkness and death, adding to the world’s joy or to its despair.”Dominion: The Power of Man, The Suffering of Animals, and The Calling to Mercy, by Matthew Scully, 2002 (New York, New York: St. Martin’s Press)

1,765 8:19 pm PDT, Jul 23 Mrs. Patricia Nigro 67 Female Deltona Florida 32725 United States I think this is a horrible way to euthanize an animal, these poor animals had a hard enough life on the street at least mankind can give them a peaceful, compassion way to Rainbow Bridge. Stop the gassing of these animals, perhaps the delegates need to go see how these animals die in the gas chamber to make them wake up. Fight for "No kill Shelters".

1,758 10:36 am PDT, Jul 12   Jocelyn Bates 0 Female Overland Park Kansas 66204 United States they're cruel, and not solving the real problem spay and neuter, make and enforce laws against puppy mills and other such cruel breeding practices, make harsher laws punishing animal cruelty offenders, educate the public on these issues, raise money for sanctuaries instead of kill shelters see above, and also, take care of their own companion animals! do not breed them (until every pet has a good home)! adopt your companion animals instead of buying from a store or breeder! volunteer or donate at sanctuaries and shelters! educate your kids on these issues!
1,757 9:05 pm PDT, Jul 9 Mrs. Lindsey Sanders 24 Female Brighton Tennessee 38011 United States This is completely inhumane. Require spaying and neutering for all companion animals and provide funding for it. Spay/neuter their pets!! Adopt from the local animal shelter. Never buy from a pet shop or breeder. 1,753 7:56 am PDT, Jun 14 Mrs. Susan Halloran 39 Female Virginia Beach Virginia 23453 United States It is senseless cruelty, and barbarism that reflects back to the middle ages. Give support and funding to no kill shelters to assist them in their programs. Trap & Neuter programs are an effective alternative to euthenasia in mass quantities. Also, make your local shelter a monthly donation, and volunteer a couple hours a week. Become a foster home for your local shelter!

RICHMOND VA: Stop gassing Virginia Pets! Support House Bill No. 3004

Wednesday, January 24, 2007

Dear AwlChat,

Tomorrow a member of our Board of Directors, in conjunction with the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies, is slated to testify before the House Subcommittee on Agriculture in support of Virginia General Assembly House Bill No. 3004. This bill would eliminate the use of gas chambers when euthanizing animals in Virginia. We support this legislation because the use of gas chambers is inhumane.

Below is a list of members of the subcommittee and their contact information. We would ask that you speak on behalf of animals in our state and support this legislation in any way that you are able. Specifically, you can contact these subcommittee members and ask that they support the bill. Only one member of this subcommittee, Kenneth Plum, is currently a co-patron, so it is urgent that you contact the other members to show your support.

Thank you for your time and support.
