Petition to Honor Ken Bruce

School Board of Campbell County met on September 21, 2006 and in attendance were Mr. Bruce's family, alumni and students of CCHS, community members supporting a special request: naming the new elementary school in honor of Mr. Bruce.  A petition was put together and presented to the Board but not even acknowledge by board members. After silence and a prod by Mr. Bruce's widow finally two board members stated they would consider the request. The discussion was then ended saying they must talk to other school administrators.

    Currently we have two elementary schools in Lafollette (East & West). Recently construction began on a new school that will combine these schools, one of which Mr. Bruce was principal before becoming an administrator at Campbell County's High School. This would be such a fitting tribute to someone that has continued to influence young students even after his death and I feel will continue to do so for many years to come.  Hopefully we can present the board and the 'other school administrators' with a larger petition so they can clearly see what our community wants.  Such a small gift we can give to Mr. Bruce who gave so much to our students and allow our future generations of Lafollette elementary students to know how important Mr. Bruce was to us!
