Encourage Social Responsibility for American Corporations

Too often, corporations are legally prevented from considering society and the environment in addition to the needs of their shareholders. But Benefit Corporation legislation would make it possible for companies to have the legal protection to try to be both profitable and socially responsible.

So far, 12 states have passed laws allowing businesses to operate as Benefit Corporations. Under the legislation, benefit corporations are required to pursue a material positive impact on society and the environment as assessed against a third party standard.

Help give American corporations the freedom to be both socially friendly and highly profitable. Tell state elected officials to pass Benefit Corporation legislation in their states!
I am writing to urge you to create and support legislation that would allow businesses to organize as Benefit Corporations.

Too often, corporations are legally prevented from considering the interests of workers, community and the environment in addition to the needs of their shareholders. Benefit Corporation legislation would make it possible for companies to have the legal protection to try to be both profitable and socially responsible. It also gives investors and consumers the protection they deserve by ensuring that Benefit Corporations meet higher standards of transparency.

So far, 12 states have passed laws allowing businesses to operate as Benefit Corporations, including New York, California, South Carolina and Virginia.

Benefit Corporation legislation has passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, including 12 unanimous floor votes.

Help give corporations in our state the freedom to be both socially responsible and highly profitable.
