A petition by makers and buyers of handmade artist lampwork to request a change of name and mission of the eBay category Handmade Lampwork>US to Handmade Lampwork>Self-Representing Artists.
The goal of this petition is to present to eBay that a convincing percentage of the marketplace desires the change of category name and mission from Handmade Lampwork>US to Handmade Lampwork>Self-Representing Artists.
Due to the recent flood of factory-made imported lampwork glass beads, it has become increasingly more tedious and time-consuming for consumers to find original handmade designs by the many self-representing lampwork glass artists on eBay. For the purposes of this petition, we are defining "self-representing artists" as those who are selling work they have made themselves, with their own hands, or who are selling work made by the hands of a spouse, parent, sibling or child living in their household.
The benefits of this change is twofold. First, by removing from the category any ambiguity about the type of lampwork being sold, it would exclude sellers who are located in the US but selling factory-made beads. Those sellers could relocate to the already existing Handmade Lampwork>Other category. This would make it far easier for the consumer to locate the specific type of beads they are in the marketplace for.
Second, by opening the category to self-representing artists who live in countries other than the US, it would expand the choices for the consumer, most of whom are seeking a particular type of lampwork, rather than a particular country of origin.
It is the belief of the petition-writer that this change will be beneficial not only to lampwork artists and their customers, but also to eBay, because the category change will attract both more sellers and more buyers to eBay's venue.
When we reach the goal of 1000 signatures, this petition will be presented to eBay.
