Congress: Don’t cut funding for Lolo National Forest in Montana

Due to the Trump Administration’s proposed budget cut to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), nearly 3,000 acres of Lolo National Forest in Montana are at risk. The public currently has access to the area, and its proximity to Interstate 90 makes it a convenient spot to hike, bike, fish, and hunt. But the location also makes the land appealing to real estate developers: if there is not enough support from the Land and Water Conservation Fund this year, public access to these trails, forests, and streams may be lost forever.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is one of the government’s most effective conservation tools for protecting public lands like Lolo National Forest. The program uses proceeds from oil and gas drilling in federally owned waters—and reinvests them to ensure outdoor recreation for all Americans. For more than 50 years, this program has helped fund the protection and management of everything from national parks and forests to close-to-home recreational areas, ensuring every family has access to the outdoors.

Despite overwhelming bipartisan support for LWCF, the Trump Administration has proposed an 84% cut to the program – putting the future of America’s public lands like Lolo National Forest at risk.

Protecting funding for LWCF should be a top priority for Congress, but we need you to make your voice heard so we can ensure public access to places like Lolo National Forest for years to come.

Urge Congress to protect LWCF and ensure the future of America’s public lands and iconic places.
Don’t cut funding for Lolo National Forest

To the U.S. Congress:

For more than 50 years, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has helped fund the protection and management of everything from national parks and forests to close-to-home recreational areas. This ensures every family has access to the outdoors and to places like the beautiful Lolo National Forest in Montana.

Every time the LWCF has come up for renewal it has received bipartisan support, and with good reason. Protecting our shared public lands is not a partisan issue, it's an American one. When it comes to parks and land, there are no "red" or "blue" voters—only green voters.

Permanently funding the LWCF and protecting places like Lolo National Forest should be a top priority for Congress. Please permanently renew the LWCF to ensure the future of America's public lands and iconic places.

Sincerely,
