PETITION TO IMPEACH PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH AND VICE PRESIDENT RICHARD CHENEY

WHEREAS, George W. Bush and Richard Cheney conspired with others to defraud the people of the United States and Congress through misleading statements regarding the threat from Iraq to justify an illegal war, and caused men and women from our community, who enlisted in our armed forces to protect and defend our country, to face harm or death for a false cause, and subsequently deprived these citizen soldiers of adequate health care and other benefits, exposing them to lifelong physical, emotional, and mental disorders, and leaving this community to social dysfunction; and

WHEREAS, George W. Bush and Richard Cheney have maliciously and negligently mismanaged our governmental agencies, crippling our emergency preparedness, exposing our community to environmental dangers, and blocking efforts to effectively address global climate change; and

WHEREAS, George W. Bush and Richard Cheney have profoundly shamed us and undermined our reputation as a nation of laws by authorizing detention and searches of our citizens without judicial review and by authorizing torture and other crimes against humanity.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Santa Rosa that George W. Bush and Richard Cheney, by such conduct, warrant impeachment and trial, and removal from office and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States; and our Representatives in the United States Congress are hereby requested to cause to be instituted in the Congress of the United States proper proceedings for the investigation of the activities of the President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney, to the end that they may be impeached and removed from such offices.

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the City of Santa Rosa be, and is hereby, instructed to certify to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, under the seal of the City of Santa Rosa, a copy of this resolution and its adoption by the City Council of Santa Rosa, as a petition, and request that this petition be delivered to the Office of the Clerk and entered in the United States Congressional Journal. The copies shall be marked with the word "Petition" at the top of the document and contain the original authorizing signature of the Clerk of the City of Santa Rosa.

We, the undersigned citizens of the City of Santa Rosa, seek the aid and protection of our Council and request that you adopt this resolution for the IMPEACHMENT of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
