The Tracking Animal Cruelty Crimes Act of 2007 would require the FBI to add animal cruelty as a separate category in its crime data reporting system.
The link between animal cruelty and other forms of societal violence is a national concern. The practice of dogfighting perfectly illustrates this connection, as it is almost always linked to illegal drug and weapons violations, gambling, aggravated assault and gang violence.
When local and state police agencies report animal cruelty incidents to the FBI, they are labeled "other offenses." This makes it nearly impossible to access and respond to even the most basic information about animal cruelty crimes and their perpetrators.
U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has introduced the Tracking Animal Cruelty Crimes Act of 2007, which would require the FBI to add animal cruelty as a separate category in its National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

Animals are loving and innocent who have done nothing wrong to be treated in a bad way. To me, when an animal is mistreated it is like mistreating a baby or child, they are all innocent and rely on us to care of them. How can you consider hurting an animal any worse than hurting a child or baby, they all breath, feel pain, and have a beating heart. It is wrong to mistreat an anmial and anyone who does should be punished and NOT just with community service!!!

I am appalled to know that not all animals are protected under the animal cruelty laws in Texas. Texas criminal cruelty laws only apply to domesticated animals, such as house pets and livestock. Anyone knows that animal cruelty is a precursor to not only to escalated abuse of animals, but also possibly of humans. Please make the consequences harsh to deter those who may abuse animals.

Animal cruelty is to me a serious crime.As my prize shepard got loose we started looking for him right away well he got shot prpbly about 20 mininutes after he got out,and because my dog ranaway{which happens with dogs}he was killed!No charges,and the most this person would have got they say was a 280 dollar fine!the laws need tro be changed a little to protect these animals not to kill kill kill them!

Animal curelty should be listed as a separate catagory in National incident based reporting sytem so that it can have the proper attention it needs. I have been fighting animal abuse for over 3 years now and it is STILL an ongoing problem and some definite things need to be done to get this stopped so these evil, brainless, idiots don't continue to abuse and kill innocent animals!
