Call on President Bush to Uphold the Constitution

President Bush has used "signing statements" to ignore laws passed by the Congress that ban torture. In fact throughout his presidency Bush has claimed the power to ignore over 800 laws passed by Congress.
Essentially, this means that when the President signs a bill into law, he attaches a statement indicating which pieces of the new law he intends to obey, and which he does not. This practice gives the President unchecked power to decide which parts of the law will be followed based on his interpretation of their constitutionality. This clearly violates the very checks and balances set out by the Constitution's signers.
As a result the has President has given himself unchecked power to decide which parts of the law will be followed based on his interpretation of their constitutionality. Among the laws Bush has challenged are a torture ban, oversight provisions in the USA Patriot Act, restrictions against using US soldiers to fight Colombian rebels, whistleblower protections for executive branch employees, and safeguards against political interference in federally funded scientific research.
Let's use this Constitution Day, September 17th, to remind President Bush that all Americans must abide by the Constitution.

Part of the job description Mr. President is that you "listen" to the people you unfortunately represent. And the laws of the Constitution apply to *everyone* and are not there to be bent or twisted to suit the ocassion.

Maybe something in effect to what happened to Julius Ceasar should be implemented... of course this not a threat but wisdom to be learned. I feel there should be more done to increase the laws against domestic violence and mental abuse and threats and with holding a womens pets to be used to hurt a women is criminal and man should be out lawed to hurt animals and use animals in a seperation or divorce. Especially when that man is abusive to his wife and her animals and that was part of the reason she left. Women are not being taking seriously enough and abuse is abuse.. mentally or by a control freak that has issues with control. It is not different then torcher emotionals torcher. Canada and USA laws need to be changed to include different ways of torching women and mental abuse and physical abuse is only part of the picture. Let the Police immediately arrest men that are emailing threats and causing pain on women. Immediate arrest should be enforce.. Laws in Canada need to change with the times and kind of stress on a womens life and safety of her pets also.
