Our National Parks are Suffering - Tell Congress to Fix Our Parks!

The National Park System is vital to America's heritage, yet a funding shortfall of more than $800 million every year has led to disrepair, a shortage of park rangers, fewer educational opportunities and many other critical problems in America's national parks.

Early leaders set aside these special places to preserve our history, our culture, and wildlife. The parks provide critical animal habitat, opportunities for outdoor education, and recreation for park visitors.

NPCA has a plan that addresses these problems in "5 Ways America Can Fix Our National Parks." By following this plan our parks will be in great shape before the National Park System's 100th birthday in ten years. But for this plan to work, Congress must uphold their promise to fund the park system!

To make up for the budget shortfall and restore the National Park System to its original beauty, an increase of at least $250 million in park funding is needed in Fiscal Year 2008.

TELL PRESIDENT BUSH AND CONGRESS TO SET ASIDE THE RESOURCES THAT WILL FIX OUR PARKS!
Dear President Bush and Members of Congress,

I'm writing to urge you to take immediate action to correct the severe underfunding of our National Park System.

Our national parks are vital to our national heritage. From Mount Rushmore to Yosemite, from the Everglades to the Grand Canyon, America's finest leaders set aside these special places to preserve our history, our wildlife, and our culture.

Yet this irreplaceable resource is in grave trouble. A funding shortfall of more than $800 million every year has led to disrepair, a shortage of park rangers, fewer educational opportunities, and many other critical problems.

Your help is urgently needed. To give the parks the celebration they deserve on their 100th birthday in 2016, we must increase funding of the parks by at least ($250 million) in FY 2008.

As we begin a new year, please make adequate funding - and restoration - of our national parks a priority on your agenda.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Sincerely,
