We Need Lower Drug Prices!

Right now, Medicare is prohibited by law from bargaining directly with pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices. This law doesn't make sense. Why shouldn't Medicare be able to use its bargaining power to negotiate prices with drugmakers?

The House of Representatives passed a bill that would give Medicare the power to bargain for lower drug prices. Now it's the Senate's turn to act.

The pharmaceutical lobby is working to stop this bill that would help lower drug prices. We need to fight back and make sure that Senators know that the people at home want them to stand up to the drug companies!

The new Medicare drug benefit is making prescription drugs more affordable for millions of older Americans, but overall drug prices are still too high. It's simply common sense to give Medicare the authority to use its bargaining power.

Tell your Senator to support this bill and help make life-saving medications affordable for everyone!

Dear Senator [Last name],

Medicare Part D made Medicare better. Now you have a chance to make it stronger.

I urge you to support legislation giving the Secretary of Health & Human Services the authority to use the bargaining power of 43 million beneficiaries to negotiate the price of prescription drugs in Medicare. Giving Medicare the bargaining power it needs is the logical next step in reducing drug prices for beneficiaries.

Numerous polls have demonstrated that the Medicare Modernization Act enjoys widespread support among Medicare beneficiaries. At the same time, almost 9 in 10 voting-age Americans support giving Medicare the power to bargain with manufacturers for lower drug prices on behalf of beneficiaries. The support is overwhelming regardless of political party. Only the pharmaceutical companies are saying no.

I am counting on you to do everything possible to help my family and I better afford prescription drugs. Please vote yes on giving Medicare stronger bargaining power. Medicare Part D has helped tens of millions of older and disabled Americans afford life-saving medicines, and I hope you will do everything you can to help further reduce the cost of prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries.

I'll be interested to hear where you stand on this critical issue.
