Tell Congress: Don't Cut Social Security and Medicare

  • by: NCPSSM
  • recipient: U.S. Congress
The 113th Congress will be considering changes to Social Security and Medicare that could have an enormous impact on us and our families. Our elected representatives must hear from us now to prevent cuts in our earned benefits.

Just consider these major threats that have happened in recent years...

1. The Bush Administration's historic attempts to privatize Social Security.

2. Negotiations during the last Congress to cut Social Security, Medicare as a way to solve the federal debt crisis.

3. The House Budget Committee Chairman's dangerous proposal to privatize Medicare, making it harder for seniors to choose their own doctors and cutting preventive care and prescription drugs benefits; The end of traditional Medicare!

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization of Americans standing up for these vital programs.

Join us and sign the petition calling on Congress to block proposals that weaken Social Security and Medicare.
WHEREAS: Social Security and Medicare represent a covenant between the government and its citizens;

WHEREAS: Social Security and Medicare belong to the people who have worked hard all their lives and contributed to the programs -- not to the politicians in Washington who want to use them as a piggy bank;

WHEREAS: Social Security and Medicare are based on a promise that if you contribute then you earn the right to guaranteed benefits;

WHEREAS: America's more than 40 million seniors have paid (and 157 million workers are currently paying) their hard-earned money into Social Security and Medicare; and

WHEREAS: One of my top priorities as a citizen and voter is the protection of Social Security and Medicare for current and future retirees.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: I urge you to work closely with the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare to protect the benefits we have worked for, paid for and earned. Among your top priorities as my elected representatives should be to defeat privatization and other proposals that threaten my retirement and health security.
