Tell New York State to Pass the Reproductive Rights Disclosure Act

The decision in this year's Hobby Lobby case dealt a serious blow to women in our country — allowing employers to decide if contraception is covered in their health plans.

In the wake of this shocking and devastating ruling, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins have introduced the Reproductive Rights Disclosure Act, which would require employers to give 90 days' notice before changing contraceptive coverage, as well as tell prospective employees what coverage is offered.

If companies are going to deny essential health care to women, their employees should know about it.

The transparency established by this bill would give a woman important information about potential employers and, if necessary, allow her to come up with an alternate plan for contraceptive care if it isn't offered at her current workplace.

This bill MUST be passed to protect women in New York from the dangerous consequences of the Hobby Lobby decision.

Sign the petition today urging New York State to enact the Reproductive Rights Disclosure Act.
Dear Senator,

As someone who believes a woman should be able to make her own health care decisions, I urge you to pass the Reproductive Rights Disclosure Act (RRDA).

Introduced by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, this law would require New York employers to give 90 days’ notice before changing contraceptive coverage and to tell prospective employees what coverage they offer.

The RRDA is a necessary protection in the wake of the Hobby Lobby decision, which dealt a serious blow to women across America.

As a result of that devastating decision, women in New York State could lose insurance coverage for prescription contraception, forcing them to pay out of pocket. As you know, the most effective forms of contraception can be extremely expensive without insurance.

If companies are going to deny basic, essential health care to their employees, this information must be out in the open.
Women have a right to know where their employers stand on contraception coverage and should be armed with the information to make decisions about their reproductive health.

[Your comments]

The RRDA is an important, proactive effort to improve the health, safety and equality of New York women and protect them from the dangerous consequences of the Hobby Lobby decision.
Please stand with Attorney General Eric Schneiderman — and women throughout New York — in passing the Reproductive Rights Disclosure Act.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
