97 2:52 am PDT, Jul 3 Ms. helen firth 18 Female ST HELENS   DISGRACEFUL THAT ANYONE WOULD KEEP HENS IN THIS CONDITION
96 5:38 pm PDT, May 29 Mr. steven christian 119 Male     utterly soeachless here! :o( Birds are suposed 2 be free, free 2 roam in pastures of green grass + meadows of yellow butter cups - NOT kept imprisoned in tiny cages in barns from hell unable 2 turn around, were they endure NEVER ENDING unimaginable pain + suffering 24 hours a day as they SCREAM in agony + pain, as they burn in there own urine !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o(
95 2:06 am PDT, Mar 28 Ms. Nicole McGill 17 Female Geelong, Victoria, Australia   I think it's absolutely appalling what these hens are made to endure for their entire life! I'm in year 12 and currently working on my oral presentation for which i'm studying the cruelty of battery hens. There are so many other humane alternatives to this system and this cruelty needs to be banned!
94 10:40 pm PDT, Mar 27 Ms. Anonymous 14 Female christchurch   It is sick and cruel and also unneccesary
93 7:55 am PST, Jan 22   Julie Cameron 35 Female   Michigan
92 12:05 am PST, Jan 9 Mr. Kevin Banks 42 Male     Should not be legal, cruelty to the hens
91 10:55 am PST, Nov 18   Brian Outten 45 Male     This barbaric practice has to be drawing to an end as we are all becoming more aware of the harm it causes and we can help by doing our bit.
90 8:27 pm PST, Nov 5   Cathy Raphael 61 Female   Pennsylvania
89 7:41 pm PST, Nov 5 Mrs. Anonymous 33 Female pittsburgh Pennsylvania I have personally visited the smallest of family egg farms to the largest of factory egg facilities and have witnessed first hand the conditions at each end of the spectrum, battery cages are a horrific method of intensive confinement and should be absolutely banned in every state in our nation. There should not be any compromise or welfare type measure such as attempting to expand or improve upon the design of the cage it should simply be banned. I was a Humane Police officer in the State of Pennsylvania until several years ago and I can honestly tell you that battery cages were the worst type of intensive confinement I have ever witnessed.
88 1:14 am PDT, Oct 28   Kathryn Livsey 49 Female Danville California They are inhumane and unhealthy for the animals and ultimately the consumer. The cruelty of not allowing these hens to do natural behaviors ie, nesting, dust bathing and to simply be able to move around and spread their wings is beyond comprehension. The cages are filthy and often contain live hens along with decomposing ones. I am on the Yes on Prop 2 campaign(phone calls, passing out leaflets, etc)-and I could tell you more...well, just go to the yesonprop2 website and you'll see all the realities. Thanks to everyone who supports this proposition!
87 4:35 am PDT, Aug 30 Ms. Melanie Helbling 27 Female Brisbane   Barbaric, cruel and unnecessary
86 5:08 am PDT, Aug 23 Mrs. Melissa McGuinness 29 Female Forrestfield   After in depth research I have come to conclusion that hens kept in battery hen environments suffer as a result. They are kept in one of the most inhumane ways that I have come across.Such treatment is incomprehensible and how it could still be common practice in the year 2008 is beyond me. Maximum profit at minimal cost is again the reason for such treatment and until people stop bying caged eggs this type of barbaric behaviour willcontinue.
85 7:46 am PDT, Aug 4   David Rose 26 Male   Massachusetts its alarming, and free range hens produce MORE eggs than battery caged hens.
84 2:47 pm PDT, Jul 20   greta malkotzoglou 32 Female Athens
83 2:03 am PDT, Jul 6 Ms. Alice Kiff 10 Female Xxx   It is so cruel how these chickens are trapped for life. I am a vegetarian and strongly agree with the ban of battery eggs!
82 5:36 am PDT, Jun 28   hazel jones 10 Female     keeping battery units going is simply a cruel and disgusting practice
81 12:54 pm PDT, May 7 Ms. Sue Elizabeth McRae 39 Female Ponder Texas I am currently working on a PowerPoint presentation called "Towards a global ban on battery cages for egglaying hens -- an anthropological perspective applying the spiritual principle of Ahimsa". Please let's find a way to make battery cages illegal by supporting small family farms and cruelty-free conditions for hens and all factory farmed sentient beings!
80 1:17 pm PDT, May 1 Ms. Anonymous 14 Female   Pennsylvania that they should never be eaten and people should get there own chickens
79 10:41 pm PDT, Mar 23   Elizabeth Animal Lover 15 Female     Unforgiveable.... Im involved in a school amnesty international group and i am making a voice for these innocent creatures. I wont stop until they hear what i have to say. Dont sit around while this is happening..TAKE ACTION NOW! "Its not just the power of one, but the power of EVERYone" Peace for the animals starts now!!!

75 11:06 am PST, Jan 30   Kyna Crain 40 Female Great Falls Montana
74 3:33 pm PST, Jan 17 Mr. David Purchase 57 Male Rugeley   I keep free range chickens and although a lot of hard work, their personalities make it so enjoyable.
73 7:56 pm PST, Dec 14 Ms. suzette gahan 42 Female caringbah   if the hens could speak english the practise would be called inhuman by 99% of people. Animals can't talk so they r treated like this. The farmers who do this r the inhuman beings.
72 11:05 am PST, Nov 16 Ms. Amy O Reilly 17 Female     Shocking. It should NOT be LEGAL to keep battery hens.
71 6:35 am PDT, May 22   Amanda Cromwell 19 Female Chicago Illinois

67 11:15 pm PDT, May 10   jane mooner 20 Female     it is a cruel and in humaine practise. we are not allowed to treat any other animal this way so why should thse poor birds suffer? if we put any other animal in their position then they would die in a matter of months. when these poor birds can lay no more they are killed and sold as b grade meat. pls give them a chance at a proper life!!!

61 9:21 am PDT, Apr 6   Joe Morningstar 24 Male koreatown California I think this is ok. Chickens and their eggs are a crop. Like corn. Dont overthink these things. Also, there are no free range chickens anywhere. You people, have you ever been to a farm. Their are no fields where chickens run free and lay eggs. Come on, think about it.

***HELP BAN THE CRUELTY OF BATTERY HEN EGGS***

A battery hen spends it's entire life in a cage the size of an A4 piece of paper, or 3 to the size of a microwave oven. The hen is squeezed inside a small wire cage with three to eight or nine other tormented hens amid tiers of identical cages in gloomy sheds holding 50,000 to 125,000 debeaked, terrified, bewildered birds.

The cage is so small the hens cannot stretch their wings or even move around. Their feet often grow around the wire floor that they are forced to stand on, making them unble to reach the food, and the hen starves to death, often rotting away beside her cagemates. Click the "Click here for more info" link to see a photo of this.

Chicks at just ONE day old have their beaks sliced off with a hot iron, which will cause pain for the rest of their lives. This is to stop them pecking each other out of boredom, although they still do it, pulling each others feathers out and mutilating themselves too.
Sometimes the weakest hen in the cage gets pecked to death by the stronger ones.

Often hens use corpses to lay their eggs on, and these eggs roll free and end up in YOUR supermarket!

This petition will be sent to the Prime Minister and the chairmen of ALL major supermarket chains, in an attempt to help stop them selling battery eggs.

Did you know that battery eggs are also used in almost ALL supermarket products like cakes, pasta, mayonnaise, and quiches? We will also campaign for supermarkets to replace these with FREE RANGE eggs!

IT SHOULD NOT BE LEGAL TO DO THIS TO SO MANY INNOCENT ANIMALS! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SIGNING!
