Marjan, the one-eyed lion of Kabul zoo, has managed to survive war after war. But will he be able to survive this latest conflict and the current shortage of resources?.
Over the years, many
animals have died of
starvation, and many of
those who survived
were themselves eaten
when food was short at
the height of the
country's relentless civil
war.
This King of the wild deserves a dignified
end for his 45-years.
Marjan's brush with death, which blinded the lion in one eye, has left the poor animal traumatized. In addition, Marjan has no mate, and often goes hungry without the volunteer donations from a local butcher.
The Northern Alliance, shows little signs of interest or resources to
fund the zoo.
More help is needed!

Dear Kofi Anan,
We, the Undersigned, insist that you act immediately to save the suffering animals of the Afghan zoo, and ensure that Marjan, the lion, and his zoo mates are well taken care of.
Thes animals deserve just treatment. They are innocents in this current conflict and should not suffer any longer.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned.
