For Mother's Day, Get Critical Aid to New Mothers Worldwide

  • by: Care2

Around the world, more than 25,000 children under the age of 5 die every day from preventable and treatable diseases, and about 536,000 women die from pregnancy and birth-related causes. That's simply unacceptable.

We need a new U.S. global plan and effort to reduce deaths among millions of newborns, young children and mothers by 25 percent in the 30 most-affected poor countries by 2013. The Newborn, Child and Mother Survival Act of 2009 (H.R. 1410) offers a strategy to accomplish these goals by investing in highly effective, low-cost solutions.

This Mother's Day, speak up for moms and newborns around the world! Urge your representative to cosponsor the Newborn, Child and Mother Survival Act of 2009.
Dear Representative,

I urge you to cosponsor the Newborn, Child and Mother Survival Act of 2009 (H.R. 1410). If you're already a cosponsor, thank you for speaking out for women and children around the world.

More than 25,000 children under the age of 5 die every day from preventable and treatable diseases, and about 536,000 women die from pregnancy and birth-related causes. That's more than 9 million children under the age of 5 whose deaths could be prevented, if we would only invest in a plan to provide the simple treatments you and I take for granted in America.

The Newborn, Child and Mother Survival Act seeks to provide health services to the parts of the world where they are most needed. Infants and new mothers need our help - and you can provide that help by cosponsoring and supporting H.R. 1410.
