Prevent Abuse of Adults with Autism and Other Disabilities

A recent BBC One Panorama investigation revealed shocking abuse at a residential hospital, including some of the hospital's most vulnerable adults being repeatedly pinned down, slapped, dragged into showers fully clothed, taunted and teased.

The National Autistic Society is asking the UK Government to enforce careful recruitment, regular inspections and detailed staff training to ensure the horrific abuse of people with autism and learning disabilities cannot persist.

Under the current system of inspection, which has seen a reported 70 percent drop in inspections over the past year, early identification of care quality issues isn't guaranteed.

Sign this petition to join the National Autistic Society in calling on the UK Government to take urgent action to address the failing in the current system of inspection."
Yesterday's BBC One Panorama investigation into the shocking abuse of vulnerable adults in care, showed how one care home systematically and horrifically tortured people with autism and learning disabilities. Despite attempts by some staff to complain about the culture of abuse within the home, nothing was done to stop it.

We need to demonstrate to the Government that we all want to see action to prevent future instances of abuse such as this one.

This petition will be presented to Parliament, after which the Government will have to respond.
