The purpose of this petition is to get the President of the United States to recognize Marijuana in a different light and allow Marijuana smokers to use the drug legally.
Dear Mr. President,

The signers of this petition would like the laws of Marijuana to be changed and for good reason.

In 2001 400,000 people died from tobacco use. 110,000 from alcohol, 100,000 from RX Drugs, 30,000 as a result of suicide, 15,000 at the hands of a murderer, and 7,600 from consuming Aspirin or other painkillers. There are no recorded deaths of someone from comsuming Marijuana EVER. So why is it that Tobacco products, Alcohol, RX Drugs, and over the counter Pain Killers are all potentinally fatal while it's proven Marijuana does not. People can die from what they eat or drink, so why is it that the only thing that doesn't kill you is illegal?

Marijuana is proven effective in reducing nausea and vomiting (often more so than others), lowering intraocular pressure with glacome, decreasins muscle spasmsm, spasticity, cancer, and shrinking brain tumors. Why make something beneficial to health out to be satan?

There are no increases risks of chronic bronchitis or emphysema. There are no proof that Marijuana causes permanent impairments physically or in the human brain. In fact, the worst side effects are troubles learning while under the influence, and short term memory impairment.

A study sponsered by the US Highway Traffic Safety Administration involving analysis of nearly 2000 fatal accident cases found 6.7% of drivers positive for Marijuana (and mind you, THC stays in your system for approximatly a month, so because one tested positive for Marijuana isn't neccesarily high when the accident occured). In more than two thirds alcohol was present.

Since Canada decriminalized Marijuana it has shown to boost their economy and save tax payer dollars on the thousands that are wrongfully arrested and jail each year. The B.C. Industry has estimated a 2 billion to 10 billion in from Marijuana.

Furthermore, our question is why is something so beneficial illegal. Today we make a plea to legalize the drug known as Marijuana. Please listen to you constiuants and give the American people what they want.
