Reject the proposal to increase the turnaround time for the first phase of academic appeals.

We, the undersigned, reject the proposed amendment to the QMUL Academic Regulations which aims to extend the turnaround time of the first phase of academic appeals from 28 working days to 3 months. This is because we believe that:

• Students should not be expected to wait three months to know if they have grounds for appeal. It would be better for students if the college reduced delays through better resourcing of the appeals office, rather than entrenching them in regulations.

• It is unfair that students who are successful on appeal will have to wait until the following September to retake a year because their case took three months or longer to process.

• Any significant amendment to academic regulations should be subject to proper review and student consultation.
