Email this PetitionRick O Barry, former Flipper trainer, went to Panama just to talk about Ocean Embassy and how terrible is the dolphin hunting business. Alexandra Cousteau, the granddaughter of Jack Cousteau, went to Panama too to talk about the problems with dolphin hunting and dolphin training.
Ocean Embassy don't want to lose their antiecological business opportunity and they started a battle against Panamanian environmentalists who are against dolphin hunting presenting to the public the facts of this sad activity. Ocean Embassy is suing immorally this environmentalists for defamation and injury.
The average life span of a dolphin in the wild is 45 years; yet half of all captured dolphins die within their first two years of captivity. The survivors last an average of only 5 years in captivity. Help us to stop this ecocide! Right now 500 dolphins need your help!!!

Ocean Embassy es una compañía estadounidense que quiere capturar delfines en Panamá para ser vendidos y/o utilizados, en parques de diversión acuáticos en un multimillonario negocio.
Rick O Barry, antiguo entrenado de Flipper, estuvo en Panamá solo para hablar sobre Ocean Embassy y de cuan terrible es el negocio de la cacería de delfines. Alexandra Cousteau, la nieta de Jack Cousteau, también fue a Panamá para hablar sobre los problemas con la cacería y entrenamiento de delfines.
Ocean Embassy no quiere perder la oportunidad de este negocio antiecológico y ha comenzando una batalla contra los ambientalistas panameños que están en contra de la cacería de delfines presentando al público los hechos de esta triste actividad, Ocean Embassy esta demandando inmoralmente por calumnia e injuria a estos ambientalistas.
La vida promedio de un delfín en su hábitat es de 45 años, sin embargo, más de la mitad de los delfines en cautiverio mueren antes de dos años de haber sido capturados. Los sobrevivientes viven solamente un promedio de 5 años en cautiverio. Ayúdanos a detener este ecocidio! 500 delfines necesitan tu ayuda en este momento!!!

Distinguished Mr. President,
It is with utmost respect that I approach you to request that you deny, ban, veto, forbid, outlaw or reject any authorization, permit or Law that will allow the capturing or importing of marine mammals in Panamanian waters with the goal of keeping them in captivity. The capture of marine mammals is an activity that should only happen in case an animal has to be rescued.
Animal protection Organizations and scientists caution that a marine mammal’s life in captivity is miserable. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), The Dolphin Project, Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, as well as Alexandra Cousteau, Richard O’Barry and several other scientists, coincide in the fact that dolphin aquariums do not have a social, educational or scientific value as one cannot learn about the real nature of these animals under alien conditions. This is the case especially when in exchange for food, they must carry out circus-like tricks or swim with people who pay for it, thus promoting a false education as the conditions of capture, captivity and training are kept concealed. The message that is being sent is that it is normal to exploit and torture dolphins in exchange for human amusement. This is why their capture for public exhibition purposes must be fully rejected.
Dolphins are creatures that posses great intelligence. Jean-Michel Cousteau once said that “to put a dolphin or an Orca in a pool is like putting it in prison”. On the other hand, under these conditions, their mortality rate highly increases due to the trauma of their capture and the environment in which they have to live: with stress and permanent hunger, and where even suicide cases have been reported. Conscious of this situation, a growing number of countries is closing down their dolphin aquariums.
The Panamanian Constitution states that the State and all the inhabitants of national territory have the duty of promoting social and economic development that prevents the environmental pollution, which maintains the ecological balance and avoids the destruction of ecosystems. In the same way, article 4 of the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights, states that every animal that belongs to a wild species has the right to live free in its own natural environment and the right to reproduction. All deprivation of liberty, including the educational purposes dolphin capture goes against this right.
It is in this way that I express with all due respect, my full disagreement with Ocean Embassy’s project and any other companies with the same intentions, of capturing dolphins in Panamanian waters or importing them, thus encouraging you to preserve this species life in liberty.
I thank you for the attention that Your Excellency will give to this matter. I take advantage of this opportunity to express my most distinguished respect to Your Excellency.

Distinguido Señor Presidente,
Por este medio y con el debido respeto me dirijo a usted para solicitarle que niegue, revoque, vete o derogue cualquier autorización, permiso o Ley que permita la captura de mamíferos marinos en aguas panameñas o su importación con el objetivo de mantenerlos en cautiverio, siendo la captura de mamíferos marinos una actividad que sólo debe darse en casos en que el animal deba ser rescatado.
Organizaciones de protección animal y científicos advierten que la vida de un mamífero marino en cautiverio es miserable. La Sociedad Humana de los Estados Unidos (HSUS), la Sociedad Mundial para la Protección de Animales (WSPA), People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), The Dolphin Project, Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, al igual que Alexandra Cousteau, Richard O´Barry y numerosos científicos, coinciden en que los delfinarios no tienen ningún valor social, ni educativo, ni científico, pues no se puede aprender acerca de la verdadera naturaleza de estos animales bajo condiciones extrañas, cuando a cambio de alimento deben desarrollar trucos circenses o nadar con personas que pagan por ello, promoviéndose una falsa educación, al ocultar las condiciones de captura, cautiverio y entrenamiento. El mensaje que se envía es que es normal explotarlos y torturarlos en pos de la diversión humana por lo que su captura para la exhibición pública debe ser rechazada totalmente.
Los delfines son seres de una gran inteligencia. Jean-Michel Cousteau dijo que "instalar a un delfín o una orca en un estanque es como ponerlo en prisión", por otro lado, bajo estas condiciones su tasa de mortalidad es elevada debido al trauma de su captura y al ambiente donde viven con estrés y hambre permanente reportándose inclusive casos de suicidio. Conscientes de esta situación, un número creciente de países está cerrando sus delfinarios.
La Constitución de Panamá establece que el Estado y todos los habitantes del territorio nacional tienen el deber de propiciar un desarrollo social y económico que prevenga la contaminación del ambiente, mantenga el equilibrio ecológico y evite la destrucción de los ecosistemas. Así mismo, el artículo 4 de la Declaración Universal de los Derechos del Animal estable que todo animal perteneciente a una especie salvaje tiene derecho a vivir libre en su propio medio ambiente natural y a reproducirse. Toda privación de libertad, incluso aquella que tenga fines educativos, es contraria a este derecho.
De esta forma, le manifiesto con el debido respeto, mi total desacuerdo con el proyecto de la empresa Ocean Embassy, u otras con las mismas intenciones, de capturar delfines en aguas panameñas o su importación, exhortándole a conservar esta especie viviendo en libertad
