Take Action Against the #1 Global Health Risk

What kills more than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined?

Hunger and malnutrition is the #1 risk to global health — and the situation is worsening by the day with the onset of El Niño.

Those suffering include mothers like Fatima Beker and her baby girl, Sina*. Fatima and Sina live in Ethiopia, where El Niño has caused severe drought. Baby Sina is now receiving life-saving food aid at a community health centre in Alemdrom, Eastern Ethiopia. While Sina is malnourished and nearly had to be submitted to a stabilisation centre, she is considered lucky. Many mothers have lost children in these harsh circumstances.

Fatima and Sina are not alone. El Niño will affect 10.2 million people in Ethiopia. Over 400,000 pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are at particular risk of malnutrition and complications during pregnancy. This month alone, as many as 27,000 women will give birth only to face the unimaginable prospect of not being able to provide sufficient food and milk for their newborns.

But you can help change this. Your action today will send hope to people in need like Fatima and Sina.

Show your support for mothers and children. We need enough people committed to helping provide access to basic food aid so that mothers and children can withstand crises like El Niño.
