Send a Valentine of Friendship to Women in Iraq

  • by: MADRE
  • recipient: Women Working for Peace in Iraq
Since the US invasion, Iraqi women have been targeted with unprecedented levels of abduction, rape, domestic abuse, and sexual slavery. The escalation of violence curtails all aspects of women's lives.

MADRE works with the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq (OWFI) to empower Iraqi women to defend their rights, to meet the needs of survivors of gender-based violence which has skyrocketed since the invasion, and to create alternatives to sectarian conflict.

With OWF, MADRE co-founded Iraq's first network of women's shelters, and MADRE's Underground Railroad for Iraqi Women offers women who are threatened with "honor killing" the means and social support to escape danger and begin to build a new life.

There are amazing women in Iraq working for peace and human rights - send them a Valentine's Day message pledging your friendship and support!

Dear Women's Advocates:

On this Valentine's Day, I send you a message of peace and solidarity.
