USDA - Investigate Treatment of Dolphins at Miami Seaquarium

An investigation at the Miami Seaquarium disclosed some concerns regarding injuries and behaviors of the dolphins in their enclosures.  Observations documented that some of the dolphins with apparent injuries were still required to perform at the park.  A show known as the “Flipper Dolphin Show” features three of the dolphins who appear to be suffering with scarring, open wounds and injuries on their lower jaws and other extremities on their bodies. Read story at  http://www.peta.org/blog/wounded-and-scarred-dolphins-at-the-miamiseaquarium/?utm_campaign=1015%20Wounded%20and%20Scarred%20Dolphins%20at%20the%20Miami%20Seaquarium%20Post&utm_source=PETA%20Facebook&utm_medium=Promo

In addition to these three dolphins, other were noted with injuries and scars on their dorsal fins.  Despite these apparent wounds and injuries, the show must go on!! It is believed that performing tricks may have contributed to these injuries.  At the very least, continual performances without treatment is possibly hindering the healing process.

We are asking the USDA to do a thorough investigation into the care and treatment of all these dolphins to determine any wrongdoing or neglect at the Seaquarium. We need to get intervention for these animals that are allegedly enduring pain and discomfort.  We created this petition in an effort to get these dolphins the help they need through the investigation and appropriate handling by the USDA.  You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition.

U.S. Department of Agriculture – Please do a thorough investigation into the alleged injuries and wounds that are apparent on many of the performing dolphins at the Miami Seaquarium. Intervene for these animals and if the findings do show the dolphins are suffering and in pain with the mentioned injuries and wounds, they need to be removed from this entertainment facility and given the medical care they need. If they are not able to be released back to the wild, they need to be rehabilitated in a reputable sanctuary. Someone also needs to ensure that specific regulations and standards are followed at the Seaquarium that will no longer subject these animals to such neglect and abusive treatment.
