TELL THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION TO PROTECT OUR WATER! SIGN PETITION BELOW
When Congress passed the Clean Water Act, the bipartisan law was intended
to protect our nation's waters from the harmful effects of pollution. Now, the Bush Administration is working to unravel 30 years of protections under this landmark, bipartisan law.
In January, 2003 the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers published a proposal that is the first step in severely limiting the ability of the Clean Water Act to protect many of our nation's waters. This Bush Administration rollback will lead to significantly more pollution & accelerated loss of wildlife habitat and pose significant threats to human and environmental health.
This new proposal would make it easier for polluting industries and developers to contaminate or destroy non-navigable wetlands, streams, and ponds. Pollution dumped into the upper reaches of watersheds not only damages and destroys those smaller -- but still ecologically vital -- aquatic habitats, but ends up harming lakes, rivers and coastal waters downstream as well.
This latest rollback follows the Bush Administration's pattern of putting corporate polluter's interest before the public's interest in a clean, healthy environment.
TAKE ACTION NOW!
Sign this petition and tell the Bush Administration to put the public's interest in a clean environment before the interest of corporate polluters. Tell them not to reverse 30 years of progress and instead make sure that the Clean Water Act continues to protect all of our nation's waters. Sign now!
By signing you will receive follow-up alerts from the League of Conservation Voters on this and other environmental issues.
We signed the “Tell the Bush Administration to Protect our Water!” petition!

I live in Northern Maine. They have stolen my food & taken away my food supply because they are not cleaning up the mess they are making. I am starving because I can not fish! I want my food back! The Government does not care about The American People & they are taking food away from The People. No matter if I eat the fish or starve either way I am doomed because all The Governments care about is Money, Power & their Creed! Anti-Christs!!

The clean water act prevents the very water we drink from being contaminated by mercury, arsenic, and other harmful chemicals. Yes, the water treatment plants help rid of these, but if the Bush Administration does what it plans, then the Treatments plants will require more money to put in more chemicals into our water to make it safer.

Don't make it easier for polluters and developers to contaminate or destroy non-navigable wetlands, streams, and ponds, which would have deleterious effects on downstream rivers and lakes all around the U.S.
Endangered and threatened species would suffer too, as 43 percent of them rely on wetlands for survival.

Why? Safe, clean drinking water is a right -- not optional. Industrial pollution in waterways cause chronic illness and death; it's well documented.

We all share the waters of our planet, just as we share the air. It is thus that we are all connected to one another through shared water and air. Mr. Bush, please believe me when I say you don't want to use my water without thoroughly cleaning and protecting it!

Why is it important to make sure we have clean water? Who wants to drink contaminated water? Swim in it? Eat fish that live in it? No-one. Not even politicians. So lets not be blinded to whats going to happen to our water if we don't protect it!

Its wriong, kills all of us not just the plants, all you have to take a look is at the studies that have been done no only lately but with technologies of many years past. It is nothing new that what is going on is not good for all our health but what is new is that people must realize something must be done now not in a few years but now/

2/3 of our plant is made up of water. The Clean Water Act, though it has some obvious flaws, is the best thing for American waters yet! It protects from point-pullution and it makes that protection mandatory. It also makes non-point pollution voluntary, but at least tries to protect from it. It doesn't matter which political platform Bush wishes to stand for, because if we keep hurting our environment, their will be no life left anyway!

Water is essential to life, ALL life, including those making laws that effect the quality of that very water. The Clean Water Act is an important piece of legislation that will help determine the health of people and the planet. We should be deciding on more strict policies for our water quality, not having to defend our rights to keep what water quality standards we now have.

It is time that we think of our future as well as the future of generations to come. I fail to comprehend how one may not see the importance of keeping our waters unpolluted. The reasons are innumerable. One reason is that our main air supply does not come from trees, but from plankton, tiny organisms that live in the ocean. If just a small percentage of its population dies, what will become of all living beings? Not even all the money in the world will save our water once it is tainted.

Native fisheries will be placed at risk if non-navigable waters such as head water streams are not protected by the CWA. In Idaho, sediment increases in streams is often the cause for water quality limited segments. This is mainly caused from land management such as timber and grazing that accelerate erosion in the upper portions of watersheds.

Clean water is fundamentally linked to our survival. The protection of our waterways and coastline is an obvious necessity in order to preserve our wetland wildlife, and our quality of life.
Bush, keep pollutants out of my water -- and keep your hands off the Clean Water Act
