How is the Economy Affecting the Seniors in Your Life?

More than 13 million seniors are economically insecure. These older adults have to decide each day whether to pay for medicine, food, rent, or utilities. They live one missed rent check, or one health problem away from financial insecurity.

We need to make sure Congress pays close attention to the welfare of our older Americans. How has this economic crisis affected the seniors in your life?

Please tell Congress what economic struggle looks like for the seniors in your life by filling in the box on the right of this screen. Your personal stories will send a powerful message to Congress that they need to do what they can to ensure economic security for seniors.
Dear Congress,

Every day, millions of older adults struggle in silence to afford medicine, food, and a place to live. After years of hard work, they live one health problem, one missed payment, or one lost job away from financial crisis.

I urge you to visit OneAway.org to learn more about the new campaign to highlight and address the struggles millions of older adults across the country are facing and to hear their stories in their own words. On the site, you can watch videos, get the facts, and explore solutions to this problem.

Social Security and Medicare provide a partial safety net, but nationwide 8 million seniors have annual incomes at or below $21,780.00. [Your story will go here].

These vulnerable older adults don't need a handout. They need a hand up to find the benefits and services that already exist but need to be connected so they can achieve economic security and live in their own homes and communities with independence and dignity.

Older adults in the midst of economic challenges deserve coordinated efforts that empower them to address their unique and multifaceted needs.

Many of these improvements can be made through this year's reauthorization of the Older Americans Act.

Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
