It's better for the state economy if Wyoming lies to its children, says United States Representative Matt Teeters.
That's right, folks. Wyoming state leaders, including the governor, have blocked the teaching of Next Generation Science Standards, an approved science curriculum developed by twenty-six states and national science education organizations. What sticks in Wyoming's throat is that the new standards teach that climate change is real. But that's a lesson that Wyoming leaders refuse to learn. Teeters told the press that climate change isn't a "settled matter."
More importantly, he thinks that teaching good science will jeopardize Wyoming's energy exports industry--and might cause political unrest--like people thinking for themselves. Tell Wyoming leaders not to lie to children just to prop up the state's economy!
Dear Governor Mead:
We the undersigned are sad to learn that you have participated in blocking a set of approved national standards that are meant to steer science education in public schools. Energy exports may be the backbone of Wyoming's economy, but that doesn't make climate change any less a fact. Burying your own heads in the sand about climate change is one thing, but lying to chidren about it is quite another thing. Your schools should be teaching good science, and that's what the new standards are all about. Good science. They were designed and approved by national science education experts in partnership with twenty-six states. Don't teach children bad science just to bolster your state economy!
