Viewer discretion warnings before animal cruelty stories on the news
Channel Ten news insists on broadcasting animal cruelty stories with no viewer discretion warnings. I'm trying to get a warning put on each one of these stories.
For the last couple of years I have been ringing the newsroom to complain about the lack of warnings before animal cruelty stories whenever they have one but have had no luck so I've started this petition.
Stories about animal suffering upset me greatly but the thing that I'm most concerned about is the effect these stories and images must have on children. I've seen very distressing things on the 5 p.m. news and at that time I'm sure there are a lot of children who see it because their parents are watching it.
I'm not trying to tell them what they can and can't cover, I'm just asking that they take three or four seconds to caution that some viewers may be upset by the following story. I'm glad that they do cover the issue because it may shock some people into caring but I don't think a little warning is too much to ask.
