Rape: it's a horrible thing that no woman chooses.
Yet as it stands now, when a survivor of rape enters the emergency room, she is not always given the chance to prevent pregnancy.
To address this troubling problem, members of Congress have proposed the Compassionate Assistance for Rape Emergencies Act (S.1264/H.R.2928).
This bill would ensure that when survivors of sexual assault enter the emergency room, they are always offered the emergency contraception pill (EC) as an option.
EC is a concentrated dose of ordinary birth-control pills that can dramatically reduce a woman's chance of becoming pregnant if taken soon after sex or sexual assault. It is NOT the same thing as mifepristone, or RU 486, which terminates an already-established pregnancy.
Making EC an option for all rape survivors that enter the emergency room would ensure that they have a choice in the aftermath of their assault.
Please sign the petition to ensure that rape survivors get the health-care services they need to prevent unintended pregnancy.
We signed the “Protect Survivors of Rape Against Unwanted Pregnancy” petition!

survivers should given all possible support to prevent unwanted and and unintended pregnancies since they have a right for it as humans and if not it is a violation of their right to their own body

It is a very difficult decision for some whether or not to carry on a pregnancy brought about by rape & the stigma to the baby that could result if people eventually find out & it may be the very Mother who saved the Baby & loved him/her the most anyway-that the Child ends up being taught to blame when he/she grows up, if she keeps it a secret to protect the Baby, she is penalized by nosey people who thought they should know their gossip & teach the child the same blame, even after all the Mother did to spare the Baby this. It is still a Brave Woman-a Blessed Baby to survive all that-but we cannot choose this for her.The Mother must also consider if the rapist was on Drugs or had STDS if the child will be born o.k.? She has many things to consider whilst traumatized & often injured. All people are asking is that the need to make these decisions is prevented before it can go any further out of her hands-if she wants that choice back-so that the woman can still choose her own mate to breed or not with-which is not too much to ask.
They are asking that in cases of rape, conception be prevented before it is too late, since it is almost too late already. This medicine can be offered her so she can say yes or no & she should be fully informed of it's benefits & risks & that the choice is up to her. . That again, is not much to ask.

I hope we do live in a civilized country after all, where women have the right to choose, especially in such horrible situations like RAPE.

Nobody asks to be raped. Being raped is one of the most if not the most horrible experience a woman could ever go through. On top of that, then she has to worry about if she became pregnant from the rape not to even mention if she contracted an STD!

It's like being raped twice when they are denied the care they need, when they are forced into a pregnancy, something they did not choose, but which happened to them because they were raped and had no choice, and to give them no choice again is cruel and unjust. All women deserve a choice, especially rape victims, don't make them victims again.

Don't forget sexual assaults at the END of pregnancy...
Michael C. Klein, MD wrote in 2002: "I think it is important to recognize
that
episiotomy is a deliberate second degree tear." [Birth. Letter.
2002;29(1):74] MDs are closing birth canals up to 30% then surgically/fraudulently inferring they are doing everything possible to open birth canals.
The most common delivery positions - semisitting and dorsal - close the
birth canal up to 30%.
Last century, Russell [1969] used Borell and Fernstrom's intrapartum x-rays
[1957] to derive the 30% figure.

semisitting and dorsal delivery...

Victims of rape should be given the chance to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. Your government has some serious glitches in your policies which should be throughly reviewed. Your government's stand on the Saudi Woman and the sentence for 200 lashes is also not firm enough. Your government portrays itself as a champion of human rights but in actuality, your domestic and diplomatic actions lack conviction and convinces everybody that the United States lacks character.

Every woman deserves to choose what happens to her body, Especially when it has been violated.
