Email this PetitionFire Island National Seashore is perfect for bird watching, fishing, swimming, boating, or just walking along the beach. But jet skis can ruin these experiences for everyone else.
Jet skis are far more polluting than outboard boat motors. According to the California Air Resources Board, PWCs emit eight times more pollution than equivalent boats because of the way they are designed and operated. The board calculated that a two-hour ride on a 100-horsepower jet ski emits the same amount of pollution as driving 139,000 miles in a 1998 passenger car.
PWCs can be fun, but they also damage park resources and detract from other people's enjoyment of national parks. Jet skis are fundamentally different from boats in their design, operation and use, and it makes sense to regulate them more strictly.

End Jet Ski Pollution at Fire Island!
Fire Island National Seashore
I am writing to you because I care about our national parks.
I would like to let you know that I am in full support of a complete BAN on
the use of personal watercraft (PWCs) at Fire Island National Seashore.
PWCs pollute the air and the water; they harass wildlife and are a nuisance
to park visitors. They simply do not belong in our national park waters.
Removing them is essential if we are "to protect national park resources
unimpaired," as mandated in the Organic Act.
Please prohibit the use of personal watercraft at Fire Island National
Seashore.
