McDonald's CEO Paid 770 Times What Workers Earn? Protect Workers' Rights!

Target: McDonald's Corporation
Sponsored by: SEIU
McDonald's isn't lovin' free choice for its employees. The fast food giant is reportedly organizing its restaurant owners to oppose the Employee Free Choice Act.

McDonald's has more than 600,000 employees in the U.S., many of whom earn less than $10 per hour. But last year its CEO took home more than $13 million. Now McDonald's leadership is actively organizing to prevent its employees from standing up for themselves at work.

Sign the petition to McDonald's headquarters and say employees need the Employee Free Choice Act!
deadline: 12-16-2009

Dear McDonald's Corp.,

I was shocked to learn that the McDonald's CEO earned $13 million in 2007, or 770 times what his workers earn.

I was also shocked to hear that, according to published reports, McDonald's is part of a coalition of wealthy business interests opposed to the Employee Free Choice Act - a coalition that not only is running ads against the Employee Free Choice Act, but also actively campaigned against pro-middle class candidates in the 2008 election.

The Employee Free Choice Act gives workers the free choice to join unions so they can bargain for better wages, benefits and retirement security. And everyone knows that a happy employee makes for happy customers and a strong company.

[Your comments here]

Please give McDonald's workers the respect they deserve by addressing the disparity between compensation levels and by showing support for the Employee Free Choice Act.

Sincerely,

I am so tired of hearing of this manner of treatment for employees. I know what it is to work fast food. I currently hold a minimum wage job, and like McDonald's, my corporate leaders seem to think they are much more important than the people who actually run the show. I had thought McDonald's was a decent place to work. The CEO has no business making that much money if his employess can't make their rent payments. Hearing these numbers, and that you oppose the Employee Free Choice Act, for me, means finding another place to have lunch and also telling everyone I know not to eat there. Not that it will make any difference. McDonald's is just like every other big corporation out there. Absolute uncaring towards everyone and everything as long as the money keeps rolling in.

Mc Donald's is so oppressive. and It's a perfect example of worker's loss of rights and power.

I worked at MacDonalds Restaurant back in 1976, in Chomedey,Quebec, Canada, Labelle Boulevard to be exact-- and I had a harassing CHINESE manager, I was running around non-stop--cleaning lot and lobby, making fries, big macs and the like...cleaning counters, whathave you...all to the tune of 2 dollars and 45 cents (minium wage back then) I had RESIGNED-- AFTER A MONTH-DISSATISFIED WITH THE WORKING CONDITIONS AND THE WAGES!!!! YOU CAN BE SURE,THAT I NEVER ENCOURAGED ANYONE TO WORK THERE....AND FOR THE RARE TIME I HAVE GONE IN TO BUY YOUR FRIES --( I WILL NO LONGER PURCHASE FOOD THERE-- UNTIL YOU STOP THE CRUELTY OF WHAT THE POULTRY GO THROUGH!! Does each and every worker behind the counter, meeting each and every one of your PAYING customers every day worth less in making the company what it is?
