The City of Tyler contracted with the Tyler Cab Company to provide Paratransit transportation service to seniors, those with limited mobility, those with special needs, families without transportation, etc., who are a part of our community in need of support.   The Cab Company offered the service, to those approved for assistance by the City.  On a 24/7 basis taking clients to and from medical appointments, to and from church services and programs, to and from employment opportunities, to and from shopping outings, to and from community services, banking, community events, etc.

This year the City council took back the contract and has been offering the service through the City Transit Service.  They have limited the accesibilty of the service to 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday and then from 8 AM to 4 PM on Saturday with no service on Sundays.  The limited service just not work as well as the 24/7 service  that was available.  Health, community, employment, church, shopping, banking, evening and weekend activities, etc. that just are not available within the limited schedule.  The City Transit also in responsible for the City Bus service that is offered on even shorter schedule.

We ask that you consider reinstating the contract to adequately serve those in our City such as seniors, those with limited mobility, those with special needs, families without transportation, etc., who are a part of our community in need of support.  Give the responsibility of providing special transportation service back to the company who have the experience, vehicles, drivers and management of this very important part of the City services to operate on a full-time 24/7 basis.
