Tell Prime Minister Howard: Stop the Darfur Genocide Now

The tragedy in Darfur has reached a critical moment. Already millions of Darfuris - driven from their homes - are completely dependent on international aid for food, medicine and shelter. But due to escalating violence, much of that aid can no longer reach those who need it most.
A UN peacekeeping force remains the only hope to bring peace to the region.
But the peacekeeping force - already authorised by the UN Security Council - might never make it to Darfur if the Sudanese government doesn’t agree to let it in. That's why it's so important that our world leaders ramp up the pressure and demand that the peacekeepers are admitted.
Now is the time to remind Prime Minister John Howard that Australians are watching, and that we refuse to let the atrocities in Darfur continue.

Im trying to educate myself further on this issue and wish i had the funds to fly myself over there right now and do something, ANYTHING!! i have seen a documentry on this which was totally un bias to either side it showed me images of things that i didnt know were possible and it made me sick to my stomach and i cried for an hour afterwards out of pure helplessness. This is no longer to mr howard this is to mr rudd. i beg of you mr rudd. you represent us as a nation and our nation needs to help other people. this is peoples lives even if it puts australia out. some of these people are in refugee camps and we think they are ok but this is their life, they want to farm their own land, look after their families and better themselves but they cant move on they must live in fear and watch their people die. this is not just another petition. dont roll your eyes and think there is nothing i can do. for just a moment put yourself in their world- scared, lost, hungry, constantly waiting for someone to come to their aid. they dont need a quick fix they need a complete change. i am a 19yr old auzzie who never gets involved in these things but i will do everything in my power to make a difference because this is not how it should be and it makes no sense to me that this can happpen to human beings in this day an age. Four years of empty posturing by the UN Security Council has allowed the Sudanese government's crimes to go undetected. The reality is that 200 people are still being killed every day in Darfur and the only glimmer of hope these civilians have in surviving is through the deployment of a peacekeeping mission to finally put an end to Bashir's violent regime.

Graham Stitz, you are incorrect, I believe, in what you say that Islam is not a religion of peace. Millions of Muslims live peacefully everyday, together with Christians, Jews, Atheists and every other denomination. It may be true that in Sudan a Muslim government is committing genocide, however that does not mean all Muslims behave in this way. To say so brings great pain to me as you obviously care about the situation in Darfur, however I doubt your comments will do anything to help the situation, they will just incite hatred among the mis-informed. I wonder if that in a couple of hundred years we will be able to finally except each and every living creature on this planet as an equal, regardless of race, religion or beliefs and use these qualities in a positive way? If so, what i stopping us from doing this today?

John, this is all about forced Islamisation of a group of people with a Christian heritage going back to the early centuries AD. Oil and rebellion are handy hooks to hang this ethnic and cultural cleansing on, but you will find that the land is culturally cleansed of all non- and pre-Muslim cultural identity, and that all Christians are either forcibly converted, massacred or evicted from Sudan under the Islamist government. Don't swallow this guff about Islam being a religion of peace - the theology of Islam prevents peace except on Muslim terms. Send peacekeepers before another 200,000 are either slaughtered or evicted to Chand as refugees.

The UN has a responsibility to protect civilians in cases of attempted genocide. the displaced people of Darfur have no protection and are entirely dependent on aid agencies for survival. Peacekeeping troops are essential to both protect civilians and ensure safe passage for aid agencies
