In the UK we have one of the lowest Bank Holiday numbers in Europe. Employees in the UK work the longest hours of any country in Europe, and hours have been rising for many people over the last decade. Long working hours lead to high levels of stress and depression, and other forms of ill health. They place particular pressure on family life. Most people in work find it increasingly hard to achieve a satisfactory balance between work and other activities, particularly the enjoyment of quality time with children and the fulfillment of other caring responsibilities. Long hours have reduced the amount of voluntary work done by those in employment.
We propose 2 more Bank Holidays
1 on St Georges Day April 23rd
1 on Trafalgar Day October 21st
