Special Prosecutor for Bush War Crimes

Target: Attorney General Eric Holder
Sponsored by: Democrats.com
Now is our time to pursue truth and justice. Please join us in calling on President Obama's administration to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate and prosecute any and all government officials who have participated in torture and other war crimes.

In the final days of their administration, President Bush and Vice President Cheney admitted they authorized "enhanced interrogation" of prisoners, specifically including waterboarding. But "enhanced interrogation" is simply a euphemism for torture, which was so severe that it caused the deaths of at least 70 prisoners.

As Major Gen. Antonio Taguba, the Army general who led the investigation into prisoner abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison stated:

"After years of disclosures by government investigations, media accounts and reports from human rights organizations, there is no longer any doubt as to whether the current administration has committed war crimes. The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account."

The United States is a representative democracy. The actions of our government officials are done in the name of its citizens. We are outraged that torture been committed in our name. We urge Attorney General Holder to appoint a Special Prosecutor to prosecute those responsible for torture to the fullest extent of the law.

Dear Attorney General Eric Holder,

We the undersigned citizens of the United States petition you to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate and prosecute any and all government officials who have participated in torture and other war crimes.

In the final days of their administration, President Bush and Vice
President Cheney admitted they authorized "enhanced interrogation" of prisoners, specifically including waterboarding. But "enhanced
interrogation" is simply a euphemism for torture, which was so severe that it caused the deaths of at least 70 prisoners.

Just as any other citizen would be investigated for crimes they committed, George Bush and Administration should also be investigated and brought to justice...its the right thing to do.

We need to regain respect in the International Community again and show that we can prosecute criminals even if they are former president and vice president.

We brought to justice after World War 2 Hitlers gang of Thugs. Why not bring to justice Bush and his Administration those quilty of War crimes. Torture in the name of "Homeland Securtiy" or protecting the american public is just complete nonsence! That is what Hitler said he was doing for the "Fatherland".

We can not allow these crimes to go unpunished. There must be an investigation so future administrations will not commit these crimes again.

I'd very much like to see some accountability, both of the previous administration and of those corporations which have eroded our economic infrastructure.

It is beyond my understanding that my United States of America could participate in torture. I am ashamed and saddened. I am also furious that this would be allowed and even encouraged by President Bush and his administration. I feel that his actions violate the mandate of the American people.

If goverrnent officials are not held accountable then the vision of our founding fathers is lost. The more important crime is the deception leading to an unjust war. Also the 911 commision coverup of so numerous and amazing "coincidnces' regarding the 911 attack, that there is little doubt men within our "goverm=nemt" conspired to at least be criminally negligent if not complicit in this attack.

To demonstrate the U.S. is ethical and conscientious regarding our treatment of human beings, during and outside of war times. To set an example for any potential future abuses of power in the presidential administration. To punish those involved in illegal, inhumane treatment of fellow human beings. To restore a sense of safety and self respect for citizens of the U.S.

Not only Bush should be prosecuted for toture (and war crimes) but also financial crimes committed on this nation during his 8 years. He took a prosperous country with surplus budget to a budget defecit of a 3rd world country.

It is time to make examples of the guilty, who have brought our country down to the rank of one of the most hated. We have fear to even travel . You, as a goverment agent have an obiligation to the people of the US to charge these offenders, & show that they are not above prosecution & show the world that "we the people" will not tolerate this from our elected officals.

Bush and Cheney both should be up on war crimes for invading Iraq and the millions of The Iraqi and American soldier lives that were effected by death, injury, maiming, loss of property, family displacement, all based on lying about WMD (weapons of mass destruction), when they should have focused on Afghanistan and Al Queada.

There seems to be more than enough evidence that Bush and his administration broke several laws. Why should the common people be held accountable when our leaders are not?
