Affording a house is a challenge in Maryland. Home prices are increasing faster than wages, and fewer people living here can afford to purchase a home. Families across Maryland can no longer expect to buy a home near their workplace,
workers like fire-fighters and teachers are especially burdened.
Making housing affordable in Maryland requires new solutions:
Tax Breaks for Individuals and Employers. A state income-tax credit for first-time homebuyers up to $5,000 and a State Employer-Assisted Housing Tax Credit for employers who provide or match employee down payments and/or rental security deposits makes owning a home
more affordable.
Planning and Coordination. Ensuring better coordination among state agencies overseeing transportation, development and economic planning is needed to help people live in communities where they work and will prevent a net loss of affordable housing through improper
infrastructure planning.
Housing Affordability Programs. A new Workforce Housing Grant Fund is needed to increase the production of rental and ownership choices for Maryland families, and the current limit on the Community Investment Tax Credit Program should be raised.

I am a native of maryland(eastern shore) and i think that the cost of living is ridiculous. I am a single parent and currently renting and my rent has increased twice within the year. I had thought of relocating to the PG county area because of better jobs opportunities...but that is out of the question because it's not fair that a hard working person should have to struggle just to keep a roof over their heads let alone food on the table.

Not everyone can afford to live with the increasing rent rates. Many who have entery-leval careers are doing there best to make ends meet. There should be more affordable housing in Maryland.

These days life is tough, the economy makes us make so many choices in what we can afford.

Our economy across the U.S. is almost impossible for single or newly weds to afford reasonable housing, and living expenses. Our Government should realize what the middle class is all about outside of Penna. Ave., Washington, D.C. !

I'm a single, tax-paying citizen who holds an advanced degree and am working to pay student loans. No children, no major bills and STILL cannot afford a home in PG county or even Baltimore. Why?
