JOHNS HOPKINS DOCTOR DESTROYS PATIENT'S HEART AND THEN THE HOSPITAL DESTROYS HIS MEDICAL RECORDS TO COVER-UP NEGLIGENCE

All hospitals and health care providers must be held accountable for their medical errors. Approximately 90,000 Americans die due to preventable medical errors and thousands more are permanently disabled. Patients' health must be improved, not destroyed, as the result of the actions of the health care provider.

410 10:34 pm PDT, Apr 4 Aida Cavazos Texas United States As a result of my doctor's negligence, I am now suffering. What could have been easily taken care of with blood tests, more specifically to check my thyroid, instead of telling me I was gaining too much weight and needed to exercise, I experienced a stroke and a heart attack with a TSH level of 149. Had I not gone to the hospital when I did, the doctors told me I could've died. I tried to contact that doctor but he did not return my calls. I also tried to sue him but because I am so sure the attorneys I hired were probably paid off or my doctor altered my medical records, I had no case. I am only 43 years old with 5 kids. Now I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and with a chronic case of urticaria (hives) with no end in site. I have an autoimmune disease which doctors say may be related to lupus. Go figure! I have no faith in doctors anymore. I don't settle for any doctors, if I don't feel a connection, I don't come back. I make calls, I go on the internet and I ask a lot of questions now.

403 9:49 am PDT, Aug 18 Linda Parker Tennessee United States Because my husband was also at the mercy of such doctors in the ccu hospital in Feb 2007, and by their own treatment method for him, caused massive internal bleeding, he had to be placed on a ventilator, and from that point on it was pure torture both from the doctors and the nurses, as well as their little group of ethnic committee, a daily, battle to fight for his right to live, not die! When it came to the time he needed help the most, they just let him die. Alone! They called me at 3:19am the morning of his death, and told me to come to the hospital now, my husband was in the process of dying. I went immediately, took me about 8 to 10 minutes to get to him, he was dead. Later found out he was dead before I was even contacted. Alot of things happened and I am still fighting to find out just what, but in reality, and the records show it as a fact, he was not given proper treatment or care. To me he died at their hands. But because he was previously diagnosed with lung cancer, their attitude and reason is: he would have died anyways! Well he did not die of lung cancer, and to me they murdered him. If a person had shot and killed my husband, stabbed him to death, drowned him, or ran over him with a car deliberately, would that person not have to be liable or punished just simply because my husband had been diagnosed with lung cancer? Would they be let go free and clear? Look at our tort laws, look at what President Bush signed and allowed to take place on this subject. The big major pharmacticals, the big insurance companies, and the hospitals and doctors are protected to the highest degree. To get the people responsible for my husbands death, there has to be a certificate of merit, by a expert, which all research indicates is near impossible to obtain. Every attorney I have approached for help in this, has all agreed the first two points of malpractice and wrongful death, is shown clearly, in other words my husbands medical records speak for themselves! Yet no attorney has thus far agreed to take the case. Why? To me is a close and shut case. The causation factors, the damage factors, are a complicated area to determine. Money I would assume plays a big part as well. Do you know how hard it is to be told that a person you loved and was such a part of your life, was murdered by the hands of the very people his life was intrusted with, to do no harm to him, but all in their power to save him and help him over a critical time? To be told that you clearly have a case but they won't take it? Let these people by with the way they done my husband, ( and many, many others both knowingly and unknowingly ) because they play God and can decide based on their own perspectives whether a person is allowed to live or die, whether they treat them to recover, or simply "keep them comfortable". I am still doing all that I can before my year limit is up, to try to find an attorney that will accept this case, because I believe in what I am doing on behalf of my husband, and I believe any attorney that is willing to take on the challenge of this case, will succeed in accomplishing the proof that yes indeed medical malpractice, as well as wrongful death occurred, and these people should stand responsible for their actions. They're many, many more at risk, as well as have suffered already, over the very ones they trusted their life to, not valuing that life when it came time to do all to sustain life, but left them helpless. My husband died alone. I could have been with him if they had contacted me in time. They reported his death as 3:00am, but didn't call me until 3:19am, I have the records of it. They took my chance to say good-bye to my husband, and be with him at the end, away from me, and him. How cruel and unproffessional of them. I hate what they did to him that lead up to the events of his death, and then didn't even attempt to save him. I want to see justice done, I want answers, and I want the doctors and health care systems changed to give the ones seeking their help, the medical care they rightfully deserve regardless of any opposing factors. The horror stories I have read in researching and looking for answers had been almost unbelievable. I did not know such things people would or could actually do to another, and go free from the responsiblity of the harm they caused. It is almost communistic. Surely America is not going to stand for or allow something like that to go on in our country. These matters must be dealt with. The doctors, ones on ethnic committees, maybe even our president, if faced with a life threatening situation, where one thing just one simple thing a doctor could do would save that person, give them a chance of recovery, give them a chance of living, might just some day have to face what many, many, of the American citizens have faced with no help from doctors, government, or attorneys, in setting right a wrong done to someone they loved. It is indeed time for change, it is indeed time for the American citizens to not just request, and let it ride, but demand that their rights be upheld according to the laws of our country that protects the people. I am not a doctor, nor lawyer, nor government representive. I am a wife, a mother, a woman, who has loved deeply, defended and fought for the right of a loved one to be given all the medical help available to see him over a crisis, and I was jeered at, mocked, my beliefs ridiculed, my fight for his right to live failed. They failed us. Get rid of the people draining the system, don't treat them to cure, but just do as little as possible and maybe even a bit to help them die sooner. After all they are going to die anyways! That was their attitude, their way of thinking, and that is exactly what they did in the end. They played God, and my husband and I paid the price of their actions. Nothing they did was from God. I believe that if I cannot find the "one" attorney willing to help me in my pursuit to see that these people stand responible for their actions that caused my husbands death, one day, they will stand accountible before God for they held a precious life within their hands, and considered it nothing of value.

398 9:54 am PDT, Apr 22 S. Steinberg New York United States It's too painful to go into details here, but suffice it to say that I have personally witnessed arrogance, incompetence, and, in my view, actual evil, on the part of various hospital medical personnel -- qualities which resulted in the deaths (which I'm certain would otherwise not have happened) of some family members & relatives who were patients there -- and I also witnessed (and reported to the hospital but they took zero action on this) a hospital x-ray technician actually (in my view) causing the death of an extremely ill patient who was on a ventilator in the Progressive Care Unit at the time. This was at a major hospital -- one that serves as a "trauma center" for the tri-state area -- in Queens, New York City. We need some sort of nationwide legislation to support and make provisions for PATIENT-ADVOCATES -- and ALSO to require that hospitals be held-to-account for their actions in all such instances. There also ought to be created an independent-of-the-hospitals "OMBUDSMAN" type agency, government-supported, that would be empowered to go in and both verify that proper procedures (including attentiveness to the needs of PATIENTS and PATIENT-ADVOCATES) are being followed AND to INVESTIGATE any possible violations of patients' rights.

384 6:09 pm PST, Nov 15 Karen Vanerhoof New Jersey United States My 20 year old daughter, my only child, was suppose to have her aortic valve replaced using the Ross Procedure or a mechanical valve. The surgeon decided without our knowledge, during the surgical procedure, to repair the valve instead. The repair bursted three weeks later. My daughter was rushed in for emergency valve replacement, but died 5 days later, due to heart damage from the heart attack she suffered when the valve bursted. We were told one month before the two year filing deadline, by the attorney, that this was not medical malpractice. I have no children and no future now, what-so-ever, and this surgeon who never did a pre-op consult (because he was too busy), and had resident doctors following my daughter post-surgery (he did not see her one time post-surgery), got away with my daughter dying.

380 12:54 pm PDT, Oct 10 Janice Bernath New Jersey United States My friend Lyn (Marilyn) Lötz Aronson died as a result of medical incompetence and malpractice when she was not admitted by an administrative MD (her own gastro doctor) after an ER MD found an intestinal blockage. She suffered with that for almost a week, at home, waste spilling into her abdominal cavity, before the Mt. Holly NJ hospital finally took her back and surgery was performed, the team removing four bags of waste from her abdomen. The surgeon held no hope at all for her since she was septic. She went on to live for 22 months, but never went back home. She and her fiancé began malpractice proceedings but she died before it even got close to a court date. I don't know if her parents joined in the suit to keep it going, since her fiancé wasn't legally able to go it alone. In the meantime, her mother suffered a stroke after a fall in the hospital; they'd sent her home saying all was ok. We took her to another hospital where it was determined she had a stroke; they sent her to Cooper, where a doctor was flown in to perform surgery. The mother survived and recovered completely. My friend had been disabled due to a work accident years before and was on Medicaid (SSI and Medicaid-not old enough for Medicare); her mother and I both saw signs in the hospital that first night, which said NO MEDICAID PATIENTS WOULD BE ADMITTED. We read that sign three times. The signs were GONE THE NEXT DAY. I want to see doctors/hospitals who are responsible for this kind of occurrence put out of business and held accountable for their actions. A 54 year old woman in relatively good health died because she was on Medicaid.
379 5:53 am PDT, Oct 9 Dianne Parker South Carolina United States My spouse was disabeld by a negligent & incompetent surgeon; who had been found guilty of such by a jury when his own male nurse died in 1998. The hospital in our town kept him on staff fro 15 years plus; with a salary of 1.2 MILLION a year for running as many people thru their horro mill as possible. Three yrs later he contracted Hospital Acquired Staph Infection becuase the Ortho surgeon would not listen when I told him Willie's immune system had been comprimised when the brain surgery left his totally & permanenetly disabled and legally blind.

354 10:24 am PDT, Jul 26 Bill Diehl Pennsylvania United States Having listened to Jim and his wife tell of their experience at Johns Hopkins, it is clear that the attending cardiologist was negligent and Jim's records were altered to cover up the misdeed. Surely Johns Hopkins would have lost the case in court had they not altered Jim's hospital records, covered up other facts, and influenced the Clarke's legal defense. Without critical evidence needed to substantiate the negligent cardiologist's action and show that he was on Johns Hopkin's staff at the time resulted in the court relieving the named cardiologist of wrong-doing. A deep and thorough investigation needs to be conducted by a person or agency that cannot be bought by Johns Hopkins deep pockets so all of the evidence can be brought to light, a higher level of medical care accountability can be attained, and the Clarke's can receive the compensation that they need and deserve as a result of this medical malpractice.
353 12:09 am PDT, Jul 26 melissa s Illinois United States I was misdiagnosed 4 times before they finally did a upper and a lower G.I on me (even though they knew I was loosing lots of blood) to discover I have ulcerative colitis. They didnt even do anything about the blood loss and it got so bad I had to have a blood transfusion. I also was so sick I couldnt walk for awhile and barley pick up a gallon of milk, but because I was was hydrated they felt I could go home. I didnt have anyone to help me, and I had to sometimes crawl to the bathroom. As it is now, I am on the verge of having to be hospitolized again and really dont want to go. I am having the hardest time trying to get on disability for all of this cause I cannot hold a job with all the restrictions and stuff this illness presents. I cannot have health care cause I don't qualify by age, or not having any kids, and I don't work full time anywhere. So basically I am screwed. The health care in this country is bullshit, and for a hospitol and people that we are supposed to trust to make us better screw us over and almost kill us?? thats crazy. it should not be allowed to happen to anyone. I hope you are now doing ok, and that things will work out the best they can for you. The hospitol needs to take responcibility and admit they did you wrong.

JOHNS HOPKINS DOCTOR DESTROYS PATIENT'S HEART AND THEN THE HOSPITAL DESTROYS HIS MEDICAL RECORDS...

Between 44,000 to 98,000 Americans die each year due to preventable medical errors. (Institute of Medicine, To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System, 2000.) These numbers do not include medical errors that cause permanent damage to many thousand more patients.

While receiving treatment for a kidney stone in the Emergency Room of a Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, I began to experience crushing chest pains. My wife alerted a nurse who, in turn, ran for a doctor (we later learned he is a cardiologist). An EKG was performed and my wife noted my oxygen saturation level to be 72% (normal is 98%). Oxygen was administered along with morphine for pain. The doctor barely looked at the EKG and said that no further treatment was necessary.

We later discovered I had had a significant heart attack which went completely untreated during my 3-day stay in the hospital. Since "TIME IS MUSCLE", the devastating damage to my heart was to become evident.

Upon discharge I went home and my health deteriorated over the next two months. Then another major heart attack occurred. At a different hospital, a proper diagnosis was made, and faxed medical records from the Johns Hopkins Hospital revealed an untreated heart attack occurred at their hospital two months earlier. The long delay in treatment almost cost my life and I am now 100% disabled and was told a heart transplant is now my only hope.

Johns Hopkins has gone to great lengths to cover-up this medical catastrophe that occurred in their hospital They have done the unthinkable to avoid all financial responsibility to me and my wife. They have gone so far as to:

  • deny the presence of this culprit cardiologist at their hospital that day (yet, my wife and I were able to describe him in meticulous detail),
  • destroy three hours of medical records (EKG, oxygen saturation, and medications) collected during my heart attack to further distance themselves from this horrible medical error and responsibility to me and my wife,
  • lie to the Maryland Attorney General's Office and the Office of Health Care Quality of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene about their apparent negligence during the investigations related to the complaints I filed with their respective offices,
  • hire a thug to stalk and harass us whenever we walked through our community in an effort to intimidate us to not pursue this matter any further.

Due to this cardiologist's negligent actions, I am catastrophically disabled, uncompensated, and left to fend for myself.

We have all the supporting medical records with exception to that 3-hour interval in the Emergency Room that went missing from my records.

This Johns Hopkins Hospital must be held accountable! We are seeking a full investigation to uncover the truth about my case.

We need your signature to add weight to our demand for a full scale, public investigation. Will you help us now by signing this petition?

Have you experienced a medical horror story as well? If so, please email us with your story.
