For the first time in American history, we have a national plan to limit the dangerous climate pollution spewing from our fossil fuel-fired power plants — the single largest source of carbon pollution in our nation and one of the largest in the world. We can't let that slip away.
But dirty energy forces are fighting climate progress through a relentless series of legal attacks. Environmental Defense Fund is fighting hard to stop this latest senseless effort attacking EPA's vital limits on climate pollution — but we need your help.
Pledge today: Add your name as one of the many Americans standing with the EPA's climate safeguards for our communities — and not with dirty energy forces.
I strongly support EPA's Clean Power Plan and the vital climate safeguards it provides for our communities. Fossil fuel burning power plants are the single largest source of dangerous carbon pollution in our nation and one of the largest in the world. The carbon pollution reductions in the Clean Power Plan are expected to save 3,600 lives every year, prevent 90,000 childhood asthma attacks every year, and save the average American family almost $85 on annual energy bills. EPA's efforts to limit dangerous carbon pollution from power plants will protect public health, fight climate change, and help our economy by sparking innovation in low-cost clean energy technologies.
The Clean Power Plan rests on a strong legal foundation: the Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld the EPA's authority and responsibility to limit climate pollution under the Clean Air Act. And the high Court has found that the very authority EPA is relying on here "speaks directly" to the carbon pollution from existing fossil fuel power plants.
Our communities, our families, and our businesses are counting on our leaders. Now is the time to accelerate our transition to safer low-carbon, clean energy — and stop the relentless legal attacks on EPA's Clean Power Plan. It's time for America to work together in protecting our communities, our health and our economy from dangerous climate pollution.
