Bring Clean Offshore Wind Energy to North Carolina

North Carolina has the biggest potential for clean offshore wind energy of any Atlantic state -- enough, in fact, to meet all of the state's energy needs and then some.

In December, the Interior Department's Bureau for Offshore Energy Management (BOEM) offered a "call for information and nominations" -- the technical way of saying they're starting the process to harness wind for power in three areas off the North Carolina coast. We have until January 28 to let officials know we support these plans.

Wind energy is a sustainable alternative to dirty coal and gas power plants. But beyond the environmental benefit, offshore wind energy could bring up to 45,000 construction jobs and 9,100 permanent maintenance jobs to the state.

With all the benefits, offshore wind is a no-brainer for North Carolina. But we need to show BOEM that the citizens of North Carolina support their project. Sign today to submit a comment to BOEM and tell them you want clean offshore wind energy for North Carolina.
To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing today to express my support for opening up North Carolina's coast to clean offshore wind operations.

North Carolina has the biggest potential of any Atlantic state for offshore wind energy generation. Given rising energy demands and the expense -- both economically and environmentally -- of using coal and other fossil fuels in the state it makes sense to develop this great resource. Offshore wind could bring 45,000 construction and 9,100 permanent maintenance jobs to North Carolina as well as $22 billion in revenue.

The environmental and economic benefits are clear. Please work to get the offshore wind energy industry up and running in North Carolina.
