Earlier this week the Samoan islands were shaken by a massive earthquake, then hit by a deadly tsunami. As needs rose in Samoa, Indonesia's Sumatra island was rocked by a catastrophic 7.6-magnitude earthquake and just hours later, the already-devastated areas were shaken by another powerful tremor!
The death toll has risen to more than 1,100 in cities like Padang and thousands more are still trapped beneath collapsed buildings. Right now, survivors are trying to cope with the sudden loss of their houses, belongings, businesses and loved ones.
Within hours of the disasters, emergency teams for Mercy Corps were on the ground to deliver shelter supplies, medical items and clean water to thousands of injured people. Mercy Corps has a long history of quick, efficient disaster response in the region and are currently working day and night to rush relief to families who've survived these most recent disasters!
