Tell the NY State Legislature to Raise the Minimum Wage!

New York's state minimum wage right now is only $8 per hour. That's only 75 cents above the federal minimum wage in a state with one of the highest costs of living, and well below what low-wage workers in our state need in order to put food on the table and support their families.

Tell the New York state legislature: raise the wage immediately!

Recently, New York City Mayor de Blasio took executive action to raise the living wage rate in the city to cover thousands more workers at $13.13 an hour. But that rate does not apply to all workers, and New York state law requires NYC to get approval from the state legislature to expand their own minimum wage to $13.13.

After pressure from Working Families supporters over the summer, Gov. Cuomo and Democratic lawmakers in both chambers agreed to back legislation that would increase the statewide minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, index it to inflation, and allow cities like NYC to raise their rates even higher. But the Republican leadership in the State Senate is still standing in the way. We need to turn up the heat and demand action.

Join us and tell the New York state legislature: Raise the state minimum wage and give cities where the cost of living is higher like NYC the flexibility to set their own minimum wage even higher.
Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to urge you to increase the minimum wage in New York.

No one in our state can live on $8 an hour.

We need a $10.10 minimum wage, indexed to inflation, and which allows cities with a high cost of living like NYC to raise their rates even higher. Elected officials in Albany need to raise the wage or Working Families will hold them accountable.
