Premarin foals need your help. Over 40,000 healthy foals are killed per year needlessly, because Wyeth-Ayerst Inc. uses their mothers urine in a hormone replacement drug called premarin when a alternitive product is available; the foals are simply by-products.

The foals are "unwanted biproducts" of making Premarin and Prempro, and are sent to slaughter immediately after birth. What an outrage for a money-making industry that is getting away with cruelty to animals! We need to raise our voices for these mares and their babies. Since the health risks of Premarin and Prempro yielded a decline in marketing and thus production, Wyeth has now come up with a new drug also utilizing pregnant mare urine to treat osteoporosis. This drug is in it's final stage of clinical trials, and if it becomes FDA approved, more pregnant mares than ever will be forced to stand still for 6 months while their bladders are tied to tubes, and their babies, once born, are shipped to slaughterhouses for consumption on European dinner tables. This is an absolute outrage when there are healthier, less expensive natural alternatives than these drugs! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW, horse lover or not. |

I think that the conditions are terrible and that the colts shouldn't be sold to slaughter houses but sent to rescue ranches and adoption places. The poor mares shouldn't have to live through those conditions either. STOP KILLING HEALTHY PREMARIN FOALS!!!!
Premarin is a hormone drug containing urine from pregnant mares. A few months after a healthy foal is born, he/she is taken to a feedlot. When he/she reaches the proper weight the foal is killed and consumed as food. This same fate comes to many mares. There are over 70,000 mares in premarin farms, and over 40,000 foals. If you imagine yourself as a pregnant mare with your day-to-day life consisting of living in cramed quarters, deprived of water (to concentrate urine), little or no exercise or grooming being impregnated as soon as you give birth, and your foal is taken away in a few months and shipped off, you will see the cruel and inhumane conditions that could be easily avoided.
